What’s New for the 2024 BMW X5 M
For 2024, the BMW X5 M gets updated styling inside and out, an upgraded infotainment system, and a new mild-hybrid system addition to the powertrain. The trim lineup, consisting only of the performance-oriented Competition configuration, carries over unchanged. It may be expensive, but it includes a ton of features.
Design
Though the BMW X5, which serves as the basis for the X5 M, is a fairly subtle crossover, there’s no way BMW could charge well upwards of six figures for the M model without a lot more flash. To that end, the X5 M features bold bodywork, a quad exhaust system, and a choice of 21- or 22-inch wheels with performance tires.
Powertrain
Every 2024 BMW X5 M comes with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, and for 2024, every X5 M is also augmented with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. All-wheel drive (AWD) and an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters are standard, along with upgraded brakes and an adaptive suspension system. Fuel economy ratings are poor, though, at just 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
Interior
The X5 M seats five across two rows, and boasts a posh interior with elegant yet sporty design. This BMW features supportive, well-bolstered front sport seats and tons of upholstery options, including several two-tone Merino leather color schemes. Soft touch surfaces are everywhere, including premium materials for the headliner and dashboard. Other features include a two-panel panoramic sunroof.
Technology
The X5 M has a long and impressive list of standard tech features, including a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment interface is easier to use than it looks, although it relies heavily on touchscreen menus. Other features include Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, navigation, gesture control, wireless device charging, a WiFi hotspot, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system.
Safety
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not tested the 2024 BMW X5 M for crashworthiness. However, BMW supplies plenty of advanced safety technology and features.
The list of available features includes a surround-view camera system, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, speed-limit recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, a dash camera, a head-up display, driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a parking-assistance system.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 BMW X5 M is available now. As of this writing, BMW lists pricing for the X5 M at a base MSRP of $124,800. That’s for the sole trim level, the Competition. The destination charge is an additional $1,175. Notable options include a Bowers & Wilkins premium stereo for $3,400, and a choice of Merino leather upholstery for $3,500.
