2019 Nissan Rogue Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Over the previous ten years, Nissan managed to establish its Rogue as a mainstay within the compact crossover class. The most recent edition bowed for 2014 and received a major refresh in 2017. For 2019, Nissan offers option and package tweaks.

The Rogue stands out for its straightforward, upright layout, and still pulls off a handsome, rugged look. Inside, details like wide-opening rear doors, expansive consoles and pockets, and fully-adjustable 40/20/40 second-row seats make it practical for five occupants. It’s also one of the only mainstream compact crossovers, the other being the Mitsubishi Outlander, to offer a third row of seating, though it’s best reserved for small children. There’s even a standard Divide-N-Hide cargo system that provides 18 different ways to split the Rogue’s cabin between cargo and passengers.

All 2019 Rogue models employ a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, backed by a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional across the range. During normal driving, the intelligent-AWD system sends full power to the front wheels, but quickly routes up to 50 percent power to the rear wheels when additional traction is needed. Unlike its competitors, the Rogue lacks a performance powertrain option. Fuel economy is rated at a competitive 26 city, 33 highway, 29 combined with FWD, or 25, 32, 27 with AWD.

The Rogue’s trim lineup is easier to digest this year, with just the S, SV, and SL grades from last year. The base S is decently equipped, with 17-inch steel wheels, LED daytime-running lights, LED taillights, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB ports. The SV tacks on 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless access and start, 8-way power seats, two extra speakers (for a total of six), a hands-free liftgate, and remote engine start. The top-end SL trim includes Bose audio, leather-appointed seats, navigation, a 4-way power passenger seat, memory settings, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and fog lights.

For 2019, there’s a new Special Edition Package for the S trim. It bundles privacy glass, heated outside mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, chrome door handles, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Safety is yet another area in which the Rogue excels. You get a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert across all grades. Pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control come with the SL trim. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Rogue a 2018 Top Safety Pick award during its most recent evaluation.

The current Nissan Rogue is currently closer to the end of its life, but it’s still a competitive and well-styled option.
