The hybrid Kia Niro was all new for 2017, so this model year doesn’t see major changes. The LX now has lane keep assist in the Advanced Technology Package, and the EX gets a standard auto-dimming rear-view mirror, lane keep assist in the Advanced Technology Package, and a new EX Premium Package with content from the Touring trim.
The most major changes come in the Touring trim. This top trim now has an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, HID headlights, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, smart cruise control, wireless phone charging, and 110-volt inverter. Kia offers a new Touring Graphite Edition with Platinum Graphite paint, Glossy Black 18-inch wheels and roof rails, a metallic grille, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, and an 8-inch navigation system with Harmon Kardon premium audio.
The base Niro FE starts at $23,340 with standard features that include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED positioning headlights with light guide, and power-adjustable outside mirrors. There’s a tilt and telescopic steering column, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, cloth seating surfaces, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Infotainment features a 7-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, AM/FM/MP3/SiriusXM, and 4 speakers.
The Niro LX starts at $23,650 and adds rear LED combination lights, roof rails, a hidden cargo area storage tray, a rear center armrest with cup holder, push-button start, and the available LX Advanced Technology Package. This package costs $1,450 and adds autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, smart cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, LED daytime running lights, and front fog lights.
The EX starts from $26,150 and adds front fog lights, LED daytime running lights, power folding heated outside mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, high gloss interior trims, heated front seats, blind spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross traffic alert. The available EX Advanced Technology package costs $1,950 and includes a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar in addition to the safety features in the LX version of this package.
At the top of the lineup sits the Touring at $32,000, which includes standard features like 18-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights, a gloss black grille, power tilt and slide sunroof, a 110V inverter, scuff plates, wireless charging, leather seating surfaces, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar, ventilated front seats, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with HD Radio, navigation, and an 8-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system. All available safety features become standard, adding front and rear park assist.
Power across the Niro lineup comes from a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 104 horsepower and 109 lb-ft paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive only. Combined with its electric motor, the Niro has 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. There is a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery tucked under the rear seat, allowing the Niro to achieve an EPA-estimated 51 mpg in the city, 46 mpg on the highway, and 49 mpg combined.

Mileage was one of the most important things, and this has 49 or 50 combined! Unheard of for an SUV. It was so quiet. Shut the door and everything is shut out. Also comfortable. I was in a bad car accident, so a comfortable seat is important. Good visibility, and storage. I think its great!May 12, 2020

The only reason I dont give it a 5 star is because it doesnt feel like a strong put together car compared to other cars I have driven (Toyota & VW) but maybe is not a fair comparison. Besides that, I absolutely love it. The ride is nice, Super quiet! Fuel economy is fantastic. It gives me a little less MPG of what they claim ( 46 highway/51 city), it gives me around 41 hw/49 city but it feel awesome spending $26 of gas for 2 weeks of everyday driving. 2018 Kia Niro Question
I purchased my Niro in August of 2018. I didn't notice this until it got hot this year and I had to start using the air conditioning. When I accelerate and between the speeds of 30 and 45 mph, it seems like the motor hesitates and surges. This only happens when I have the A/C on. Anyone else seem to have this issue?

The tethering system with my Android phone has stopped connecting. I changed the USB cable several times, updated my Android Auto App. checked all settings on my phone. Cannot get it to work, so I am unable to use navigation or listen to my music. The music won't go blue tooth either. It just loads and loads and never finishes. It was awesome for a month and now it is just not working. Any ideas? Thanks
