It may be the biggest pickup truck available to individual consumers, yet the 2014 Ford F-450 Super Duty, despite prodigious towing and hauling numbers, standard dual rear wheels, 4-wheel drive (4WD) and a turbodiesel V8 powerplant, still comes up short of the Ram 3500’s class-leading 30,000 pounds of fifth-wheel towing capability.
Nevertheless, look for Ford’s oversize 2014 workhorse to return with 5 trims: the base XL, the up-featured XLT, the luxury-laden Lariat, the princely King Ranch and the top-shelf Platinum. All F-450 Super Duty trims should additionally return boasting state-of-the-art techno goodies, the standard 6-place, 4-door Crew Cab configuration and an 8-foot long-bed cargo box.

Look for step running boards and cloth upholstery in the next-up 2014 F-450 Super Duty XLT, not to mention full power accessories, including heated power-adjustable outside mirrors, with cruise control, and SYNC hands-free infotainment and destination download that interfaces with standard Bluetooth technology also coming standard. Front and rear floor mats, meantime, should be delivered in this lower-midlevel edition, as should a single-CD player, 4 speakers and a USB port.
The lap-of-luxury Lariat adds tubular running boards, a power sliding rear window, premium leather upholstery and cabin accents, power-adjustable front seats, power-adjustable pedals, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Then it will undoubtedly go on to list dual-zone climate control, simulated wood cabin trim pieces, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 9 Sony premium speakers, satellite radio and a memory card slot as standard goodies.

Of course, options-wise, look for lower trims to remain eligible for much of the stuff that comes standard in higher trims, while such things as a stowable bed extender, spray-in bedliner, a transmission power takeoff (for operating plow equipment, etc.), integrated accessory switches and a power sunroof should remain offered as trim-level-dependent options, as well. Also expect the Ford Work Solutions Package with in-dash computer to remain available to the XL and XLT trim levels, while the FX4 Off-Road Package, with skid plates, Rancho-brand shock absorbers, unique decals and all-terrain tires will likely again be available trim-wide.
Standard safety equipment aboard Ford’s biggest consumer-oriented rig, meantime, will doubtless remain 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), traction control, front side-mounted airbags, and front and rear head airbags. A post-collision safety system should also return as a standard safety feature aboard all trims, as should a rear back-up chime. Meantime, XLT and higher trims should be delivered with standard Sync emergency services and a remote antitheft alarm, with Lariat and higher variations boasting standard front fog/driving lights, dusk-sensing headlights and turn-signal-integrated mirrors.
