It was entirely to expensive for what it was the paint and windows on the passenger side looked like someone droped a few buckets of gravel on it it should have been repainted and the rear window on that side was bad enough to change.

Would Buy Again But As A Used Car — Love the handling and the attention to design and detail the A3 provides. Like the performance from a 4 cyl turbo diesel as well as incredible gas mileage. Love the looks the car gets. Dont like the way it eats front tires nor the 3 recalls, but do like the Audi response to these recalls. Truly a quality car backed by quality company.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Handling, handling, handling. Gas mileage, reliability, customer service.

Cons: Tire wear, front, due to excessive camber for performance

Fun, Fuel-efficient Alternative To Dowdy Hybrids — I LOVE this car. It's fun to drive, has exactly the features I want, gets outstanding fuel mileage, has plenty of interior room, despite being narrower than most cars, which also helps protect it from dings in parking lots from inconsiderate parkers.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Lots of torque, spectacular fuel mileage, nice handling, comfortable, easy to park, great visibility,

Cons: No Roof Rack

A3 Cabrio — Audi A3 1.6 TDi Sport Cabrio. Deep Blue with Cream Leather. Took a long time to get this one over a year on the order book with the dealer. The picture shows it just delivered with 7 miles on it. Great car, good electric roof and heated seats. Drives better and more room than BMW 1 series and VW EOS.

Pros: I mean come on just look!!

Cons: power!, wish i had gone for the 2.0

My 2011 A3 — My Audi is everything that I could have hoped it to be! The performance, engineering, build quality, fuel economy, and telematics are first class. I have been fortunate to own several great cars; such as an Acura, BMW, Hummer, Two Saab Turbos, and a Volvo. This car is an absolute favorite!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: This car is a tremendous value for the money.

Cons: Nothing.

"All around package. The Volvo is a sports car disguised as a family wagon. It was equally adapt to handle chucking the kid in the back, a canoe on the roof, and bikes on the back for a week in Maine as it was chucking it down the country roads once you got there, and unloaded. Pure master class."

Handling Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI better.
"The question above reads as that I thought the Golf TDI handled better than the A3 TDI - but thats not how Id responded to the question. Rather, its tough to discern which is which, and as earlier noted, only the A3 sport package w/ its firmer suspension changes that fact. Even then, unless u take some nice curvy roads (or go over poorly paved roads, or God-forbid, major pothole, the difference may not show immediately show itself to a non-enthusiast."
Looks/Style Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI better.
"Actually, I much prefer the looks of the 2011 (06-13) Audi A3, which like its Golf sibling, is a hatch, or sportback."
Front Seats Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI better.
"Wow, CarGurus rly didnt accurately note my actual question responses. I didnt prefer the Golfs front seats, but I also only rode in a friends car briefly. Also, again, the sport pckg seats r different n 90% of A3 TDIs have a standard leather seat, which I can say look great imo but I cant comment on how they compare to the Golfs, which also were quite nice n my friend loves. I do love the alacantra sport seats which r well-bolstered."
Back Seats Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI better.
"Its not the passenger room thats different from A3 to Golf, but rather the available storage rm behind the backseat n w/ the seats down. From the exterior, Id thought the A3 was bigger, but I was mistaken. Its not a big difference, but IF u need a bit more rm, all that matters is if it makes a difference to u..."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI worse.
"Slightly more rear storage in Golf - see seat comments above"
Family Car Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI worse.
"The price n mileage being equal, aside from whether u care abt a premium badge or not, simply bc the Audis a bit nicer and I prefer its look, Id take an A3 over Golf, even without the sport pckg. New, Id have saved $$ n gone with a Golf, n if u can save much, well the Golfs a ton of car for the money, used. But so is the A3, n if u missed it above, I found the Golfs to be mostly within $300 of equivalent A3s - at least in late 2019. Whether the went for asking price, idk."
Value Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI worse.
"Bc of Diesel-Gate, and the fact that both A3 n Golf TDIs were involved yet some still legalized as late as 2019 n perhaps later, there are low mileage examples from 2010-13 of both Golf n A3 on the market - n the VWs were generally priced the same as the Audi as of 2019 and early 2020. Theyre largely the same vehicle, so both r great handling (potential) family cars, w/ as expected, the Audi including a few exclusive niceties on the Premium Plus (which most r, vs Premium, the only other option, besides sport pckg), the latter having firmer springs, black headliner, + sport seats in a different leather (the standards nice too), 18 wheels w/ low-pro summer tires, the latter of which is for some, more trouble than its worth, esp depending where u live. The standard suspension on both is otherwise the same, n u may prefer it, unless like me, u enjoy more...spirited motoring. I was concerned the sport suspension may be too firm, but imo, its just rt. The standard cars r still both great handlers, n had I not found the particularly low mileage (19K on a 2011!) Sport variant for a great price, Id have been happy with the standard A3. It still feels n drives like an Audi, after all. But then so does the Golf, n in 2011, new, the Golf was hard to beat, A3 harder to justify. But now, things r different. Also if ur wondering, does Vags de-powering the TDIs for emissions legality translate to an underpowered motor or much lower mpgs? I was a bit surprised to discover that according to sources, like Car&Driver and Cars.com, on paper, the specs barely changed, nor did they find it felt detuned behind the wheel. Otoh, when other sources, like TheFastLane tested an affected car, BEFORE the dealer software upgrade - when IN the original cheat mode, the detected abt 10%. Yet apparently the final fix was less drastic, n the consensus was the power loss was negligible, n still the slightly lower EPA #s were impressive for the power. Which begs the question... WHYd they cheat in the 1st place? In any case, Id driven neither car pre-Diesel-Gate, but Id never guess theres just 140 horses under the hood, particularly bc of the notorious diesel torque (abt 230). Even at highway speeds tho, I never felt the need for more. Obviously the mpgs r a little less post-cheat device removal, but if theres as great a handling family car with as still impressive EPA #s, Idk of it. I get that many ppl hate on VW/Audi these days for such audacious deception n I wont pretend it didnt leave a bad taste in my mouth. But the fact is theyre now legalized AND carry a new (LTD) warranty, from the date of cars fix, which will be stickered on the car, but also searchable w/ VIN on VW/Audis site. I recommend reviewing the warranty; it covers a lot, but NOT everything. Just whats related to the fix. Some may be critical of buying/driving Diesel-Gate VW/Audis...and perhaps, had I been able to afford another make n model, who drove as nicely, handled as well, was as safe, w/ equivalent MPGs...under 15K miles, n a partial warranty. BUT theres nothing like these TDIs nor will there be, and the closest thing MOST DEFINITELY doesnt come in @ well UNDER $15K...but a (2010-13) A3 (and Golf) can. Most dont have such few miles, but some still may - n many have under 50k miles, for a relative steal. The Golf TDIs itself is no slouch, was an awesome car then (n still) but just be sure to compare cost with its Audi sibling. Both cars were niche vehicles when new (esp the upmarket Audi), and are only moreso now. But if it appeals to u (n u arent set on Asian makes superior reliability), while Ive had no issues in 8 months, 5 of them were during Covid19 lockdown/Quarantine...n so Ive driven just 3000 miles. Nevertheless, my A3s been problem-free. I did buy all-weather (NOT all-season) tires, which r important for the cold, whether theres snow or not but thats a whole nother discussion, n only the A3 sport package has summer rubber def unsuitable for colder weather/sub-40F. "
Would Buy Ranked 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI better.
"NEW, back in 2011, Id save a few grand n go with the Golf. 8 yrs later, I found the price difference negligible, and I was lucky to find a loaded A3 in excellent condition with under 20k miles. Across the country, there were a few, just a few, with even less. But even for mine, I needed to travel several hundred miles. Within 60 miles there were 2 other A3 Premium Pluses (as opposed to Premium), but with more miles abt the same price."
