It was clean, and zippy, but there were rust areas under the hood that were concerning. Before I could get back to take it to my mechanic for a pre-buy inspection, it was sold.

Leased For 3 Years, Now Have Owned For 2, And Can't Find Anything New I Like Better. — I really like this car, and wish Toyota hadn't given up on it. The new Corolla is nice, but with only one engine and no hatchback version, they are missing out on alot of buyers. A new version of the Matrix would sell well with the right equipment and upgrades.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Nice sporty feeling car with great reliability , good power and it still gets compliments after 5 years of driving it, I also find the seats very comfortable even on long drives, and if you need to fit a big item, it can do it!

Cons: Fuel economy could be better in the city and low profile tires not great in snow.

A Practical Hatchback — The Matrix was a great vehicle for a college student. Moving from dorm to dorm, the hard plastic on the rear seatbacks made moving a breeze. Driving dynamics were well-controlled but lacking in excitement. I would recommend going with the 'S'.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Versatile, economical, peppy 4 banger

Cons: Fit and finish, numb steering

Great Family Cargo Car — This is one of the best cars I have ever owned. It looked great and stylish from the day we got it to two years later covered in snow. It's sporty, fun to drive, handles well and can hold a bunch of stuff. Lay flat back seats really makes a nice option for transporting larger items. Toyota reliability means a lot to me; I have owned 4 in a row and never have any issues with them. Doing all the regular maintenance helps and keep from having any issues later. Just a fantastic vehicle all around.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Sweet car, fun to drive, decent gas mileage, can hold a lot of stuff when/if you move. Never seems to have an issue, just change oil and add gas.

Cons: Could be better on gas mileage, audio controls are not on the steering wheel, slightly loud inside the cabin.

Nice Simple Ride — Gas n mileage is fine, performance is great, still on lease and great service from the dealership. It looks nice inside n out but it does not have alot of trunk space for groceriea or a folded stroller to be stored alone in the back hatch part.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: rims no hubs

Cons: no real trunk space

A Safe Economical Choice — Performance- 1.8 litre base model has no performance to mention, especially on highway or when packed with people and luggage Build Quality- excellent, only minimal problems with weather stripping on rear hatch Style- interior and exterior styling is great, much better then the previous models pre-2009 Costs- EXCELLENT on gas, insurance is relatively cheap, no outstanding maintenance although it is brand new FUN?- surprising loud stereo with aux input, if your the only one in it its pretty fun to drive, handles and performs like most small cars, exhaust sounds better then i thought it would when your foots to the floor

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: fuel economy, interior space, reliability

Cons: performance
