Valve cover gasket leaking
Could a leaking valve cover gasket cause a whining in my power steering? Reservoir and power steering hose all look good.

Write a reviewThe S80 came out in 1999 as the successor to the S90 and underwent a number of changes toward the end of the millenium's first decade. After adding inline-six and V8 versions in 2007, Volvo gave the 2008 version another extensive makeover inside and out. The biggest change comes in the form of a T6 AWD trim that features a turbocharged 3.0-liter, 281-horsepower inline-six engine with a six-speed automatic transmission (all trims have a six-speed automatic). As with previous models, the S80 continues to get pretty good crash test ratings and runs strong beyond 60,000 miles, according to many drivers.
Across trims, gas mileage averages out to 15 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. All three trims have four doors, seat five, and have the same basic standard features, including air conditioning, power windows, a CD player, and power door locks. Higher-scale standard features include a sunroof and powered leather seats, as well as the ABS brakes, traction control, and stability control you'd expect from a model with high safety ratings. A navigation system is optional.
While the S80 has always had a solid reputation for safety and dependability, it doesn't get as much love from young people who like their drives fast and flashy. So does the 2008 Volvo S80 do anything to shed the line's pedestrian reputation? In one word: No. The '08 version simply builds on the model's existing reputation, especially the new T6. According to reviews, the T6 almost feels like a V8, which makes sense, considering that the V8 only tops the T6 by 30 hp. In addition, drivers like the safety features, interior, and reasonable price. So while the 2008 Volvo S80 may not win as many style points as the competition, it does get props for prioritizing function over form.

I have a 2009 S80, 3.2. So far Ive put 110000 miles on it.
Its a very mid-luxurious, efficient and comfortable car with some of the best seats and safety features in the industry.. Many people have complained that the handling is not spirited enough.
Ive driven Volvos since 1985 and every car I have had Ive gone to IPD and upgraded the suspension with thicker sway bars stiffer lowering springs and Bilstein touring struts/ shocks to drastically improve handling and ride..
I would recommend this as a good used car if you would like a little bit of luxury and an efficient ride that averages city and highway 23 mpg. It is not without a few issues the CD Player stopped ejecting... Like all plastic headlights they began to fog over when I pull them out I realized that some of the wiring insulation was getting brittle with age so I found reasonable priced replacements on Amazon and theyre like new again.
Ive driven every one of my cars over 250000 miles and I expect this 1 to be no different.

This is an overall great car, and a terrific deal for the quality. The V8 is fast and responsive, and the AWD system means it handles great in the worst weather. Get the premium audio which rivals the Harmon Kardon Logic 7 in my previous Range Rover.Jun 08, 2009

The S80 is the nicest car I've driven as company car, smooth, gorgeous, comfortable,... It's just a wonderful experienc to drive that car again and again, it's like it rides on clouds, just sit back relax and enjoy the high performance audio or premium sound. Love this car. Fully loaded. The sport package is a must!!! Air comes up through the front seats to keep you cool in the summer. Doesn't get any better than that. This car is fun to drive, accelerates very quickly (I drive on the Autobahn every day), looks sleek and sophisticated. Is extremely comfortable with plenty of leg room for the backseat passengers too. Very easy to see over the steering wheel for us short people (5'4"). I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. At the moment I drive an S80 2.0 D, black metallic with beige leather, gps, bluetooth, high performance audio, really a dreamcar, off course a V8 is nicer but I'm happy with the 2.0 D. The years that I had to be the fastest on the road are in the past.Jan 08, 2008

2008 Volvo s80 - Head Gasket Change
Car was overheated due to a thermostat failure. Changed the thermostat and while waiting to see if the heat would blow warm air, the car started running really rough and then began blowing white smoke. Also coolant in the oil. I am trying to understand the difficulty in this repair and appreciate any information i can find here. I'm devastated as i loved this car. Had it for many years and it was the best car I've ever owned.
