With its launch of the 2008 Rogue, Nissan finally makes its entry into the crossover utility vehicle market. Crossovers are hot right now, as buyers flock to the sporty little models that offer the roomy flexibility of an SUV with the fuel efficiency of a car. Competing with well-established models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda's CR-V, the 2008 Nissan Rogue needs a lot of pizazz to make a splash.
According to most reviewers, the '08 Nissan Rogue definitely has what it takes. Based on the Japanese maker's C platform (best known as the base for the popular Nissan Sentra), the '08 Rogue is targeted at younger buyers, from its name to its styling to its high-end Bose sound system. The compact utility vehicle offers an independent suspension, stability and traction control, and antilock disc brakes as standard features.
Two trim levels are offered for the 2008 Rogue: the entry-level S and the more luxurious SL. Each is available with front- or all-wheel drive, though the Rogue's light weight and relatively low profile don't make it a natural for off-road use.
Under the hood, you'll find a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with an output of 170 horsepower and 175 ft-lbs of torque. That's plenty of power for a relatively lightweight vehicle like the Rogue; thanks to a continuously variable automatic transmission, it has plenty of power for hills. Reviewers praise the Rogue's oomph and quick acceleration; only time will tell if buyers zip into Nissan showrooms for this cute little CUV.

I was originally looking for an Altima, and then I found the Rogue. They share the same 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and have similar interiors. But the Rogue adds lots of cargo space in the back plus all wheel drive. It’s my first SUV and I’m very happy with it. Plenty of space for a young family. Feb 14, 2021

great car very reliable if you follow the maintenance schedule. we had it since 2008 and just sold it on cargurus and it still drive like an new car it held itself very well. only issue was it was too small for me to drive but it was perfect for my wife.Apr 27, 2015

This car is your standard compact SUV. Everything works well with minimal upkeep needed. But its just boring and lacks anything that makes you want to show off your vehicle. It will get you from point a to point b day in and day out but YAWWWWWWNNNN I'm bored just writing this review.Apr 03, 2013

the most I like about my car is the BOSE sound system. And also it's an Crossover SUV, I can Park on curves, sodewalks or anywere. Also is a four cylinder, so it's pretty good on gas,and is low maintenance. I haven't even change the brake pads yet.Jan 18, 2010

Intuitive all-wheel drive engages at start-up, on turns, and in the rain and snow. At all other times the Rogue is front-wheel drive, using many fewer drivetrain parts, extending powertrain life and improving gas mileage. This vehicle sticks to the road like glue.Oct 01, 2009

Better CUV that i thought it would be. Interior has tight fitted plastics but work well. CVT and engine work well, but it is quite noisy. A decent cargo hauler and plenty of space in the interior for five. Exterior design is nothing spectacular.Sep 08, 2009

Great gas mileage out of the 4 cylinder, but due to some tuning and its 175 HP output, you still have plenty of power on demand. CVT makes for a smooth comfortable ride in Overdrive, if you disable overdrive the transmission kicks up about1500 RPM for great engine braking or more passing power. The AWD is very smart and even when I start to slide I feel full control.Appearance is great, size is perfect, do not get the BOSE stereo unless you are over 50. Good looking vehicle inside and out, easy locations for accessories/controls, and a great safety rating.Dec 02, 2008

Not a bad car, when you haven't owned an Acra first. I wish there was an available v6, but the 4cyl keeps mileage around the 30 mpg range. Maintenance ahs been minimal, but it handles better than other SUVs/crossovers that I have driven---but it needs the 6cyl and more little features (remote start, remote window down)Nov 08, 2008

Looks beautiful, like a high-class SUV, but a little smaller. The ride is nice, but acceleration is a little slow. Luckily it has a toggle shift so I can take over! It's fun to drive, and it has a nice Bose sound system, XM Radio, sunroof, comfortable seats. It's average on mileage, about 21/gal. I just got this car and I like it. The SL AWD has the premium package with includes HID headlights, a BOSE 6 disc stereo, roof rack, 17 inch wheels, bluetooth, and paddle shifters. I paid 23 grand.May 30, 2008

Nissan has a decent mini SUV that could have been a serious competition to the leader in this segment-RAV 4. However few quirky little things will persuade many buyers to look elsewhere. For example, there is no manual transmission or a standard automatic transmission available. Not everyone likes the CVT. The bundled packages border on absurdity. You cannot get leather with 2WD and you cannot get HID lights with 2WD. Yet you can get sunroof without any premium package. You cannot have the keyless and homelink with 2WD premium package. If you add aluminum kick plates or mud flaps to the SL package it will downgrade you to the S package!This reminds me of the strategy Dodge and Plymouth dealers used to do a few years before they went down the tube and I don't know whether Nissan is heading that way. It sounds like they are trying to jack up their price by forcing customers to buy options they dont really want. Keeping inventories to low level may boost the price slightly but Nissan is crazy to think that any of their vehicles command a premium price above the sticker. Rogue is an okay vehicle.Exterior Looks decent (Looks like a Hyundai from the rear and side) and the interior is one of the best.Performance is so so and the engine is noisy on acceleration. Handling is pretty good.gas mileage is good but not a class leader. Reliability is not known as this vehicle is in its first year but based on other similar vehicles Nissan has produced recently, it should be better than average. How does it compare to other vehicles? The RAV 4 sport or the limited V6 leaves the Rogue in the dust in every way including performance, quiet interior, fun to drive, power to weight ratio and resale value. Honda CRV has better looks and resale value with less fun to drive factor than the RAV4 or the Rogue. I would seriouly recommend test driving them back to back before making a decision.My message to Nissan- Get your act together with options and packages. Why does my air get blocked when I get on the highway?
My condition runs pretty well through out the day. But when I get on the highway for a trip, it’s like it cuts off. But the things it doesn’t completely shut off. When you turn the radio off it sound like something is blocking the air from coming through. You can hear the air trying to blow through the vent, but something is blocking it. I’m not sure what to really fix. Please help?

my ac isn't working, could it be the condenser?
My dad filled the freon and when I first start the car it blows cold and when I'm going slow, under 30, it also blows cold. As I speed up, it gets warmer and if it's warm from sitting in the sun when I turn on the AC, it also blows warm. The compressor does run and the clutch kicks in, but he wasn't sure how much oil is in it. Under the hood, in the front and on the driver's side, there's an oily substance that's blown up onto the underside of the hood and it also looks like it's down along the condenser, could a bad condenser be the problem?
