There is a lot of power packed into the 2006 Dodge Durango. Yes, it will haul groceries and a couple of baskets of fresh-picked apples on a sunny Sunday afternoon, but even if you want to haul 8,900 pounds of fresh-picked apples, it won't flinch. Powered by a 5.9-liter, 335-hp Hemi V8, the Durango tackles hills and highways with awesome power.
The 2006 Durango loses the ST trim, making the 2WD SXT with a standard 3.7-liter, 210-hp V6 engine the base model. Other trims include the SLT, Limited, and Adventurer, which is targeted at outdoor, off-roading, adventurer types - hence the name. SLT and above models come standard with the 4.7-liter, 235-hp Magnum V8. Available with two- or four-wheel drive, the V6 is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the V8s are paired with a 5-speed auto tran.
The Dodge Durango received a five-star front crash rating in 2005, and new in 2006 are more safety options, including electronic stability control and roll-sensing side airbags. An anti-skid system replaces the traction control. Inside, the third row in Limited models is now designed for three passengers instead of two, upping passenger capacity from seven to eight. A power liftgate comes standard in Limited trims.
The 2006 Durango is praised for its comfortable ride and muscle-car power, though it loses marks in stability and reliability. Interior comfort ranks high, though some drivers complain about the exterior front styling and rear visibility. Forget about gas mileage.

The Durango has been a fun vehicle for hauling the family and friends around, it seats up to 8 easily and has been our go-to SUV when it comes to getting people together. I've driven this in severe north eastern Ohio weather, a snow belt, with complete confidence. The 4 wheel drive and excellent steering and road handling capabilities has never let me down. Maintenance costs have been higher than with our Expedition and it has required more trips to the dealer for servicing. Overall however it has been a pleasure to own one.Dec 08, 2014

I love the Durango with the Hemi. The six with the trans it comes with just does not work. I got better mileage with the Hemi than I would have with the six cyl. It carried max'ed out loads and folks with ease. It wasn't so large that I felt I was docking a ship when I parallel parked it.Jun 15, 2014

We have owned this vehicle for 6 years and it has been a great vehicle. No major problems. The check engine light popped once in 6 years. The vehicle had great power while towing a 4000lbs boat. I would definitely purchase again.Aug 10, 2012

SO far I am loving everything about my Durango. It can always use more power which the aftermarket has parts for that. Styling is nice since it stands out in a sea of SUV's. The gas mileage could be better but having the hemi I knew this going into the purchase. I try keep my foot out of it when I can and estimate an average 14-16 mpg per tank. I have gotten around 22 mpg on trips if I keep the speeds down. The stereo is really good for stock and my son loves the dvd player in back with wireless headset, thankyou Dodge. As far as maintenance costs go, I have had it for a few months so no problems to report. There is a small spot in the drivers rear quarter panel that has bubbling paint which is rust, Didn't see this when I bought it but I can get it fixed. This seems to be a prevalent problem with this model. Theres lots of different builds for this modle so find the options you are looking for and look around. You will get more SUV for you money with the Durango than any other make.Dec 01, 2011

My truck can pull a house. It's got a HEMI :-) This truck has 3 Rows of
searing and can carry 8 people at a time. Gas mileage is not good

I loved driving my Durango, it was smooth, POWERFUL, handled nice for an SUV and it got a lot of compliments. Mine had every option available so I was kind of spoiled by it. It even got about 20mpg average on the highway with the HEMI. I only had 2 complaints about it: The NAV system wouldn't let my wife make updates while I was driving, I know, a safety feature. And my other problem was the lack of storage for the 2nd row passengers, they had no place for their electronics or to store DVD's. (ok...a 3rd complaint: 2nd and 3rd row passengers wanted a kill switch for the subwoofer in the back!)Jan 12, 2011

Purchase new in 2006 was a dealer Demo car. 5.7L Hemi (4,6,8) AWD, leather, DVD, CD, Dual air, towing pkg. fairly well eqpt. This is my wife's daily ride, she picked it, she drives it.
Runs good, fuel mileage a little lacking at 17 around town and 21 on the highway. Well built, comfortable, taken many trips to the beach in it. Plenty of power, will certainly get out of it's own way!
Has the DVD player which is great for the kids 8 passenger seating lots of room.
As with my other Dodges no repairs other than wear and tear items. Brakes tires etc. Dec 11, 2010

I loved my Durango, but I had a lot of problems with it. Remotes stopped working, sticking when you turned the key to start it, had warranty but Chrysler could NEVER fix it! It killed me to get rid of her, but I had no choice. Nov 25, 2010

amazing acceleration from the 6L engine.. twin turbo.. with an engine that loves to be revved.. top speed of 240km/h it is the sexiest car i have ever driven.. it is a bit big but otherwise it is really good, fast and amazing. it wil never let u down nd th engine is powerful.Oct 11, 2009

Love it, Love it, Love it. No probs in the winter no matter how much snow is falling or already on the ground. Third row seating allows for plenty of room to take the entire family anywhere we want to go. V8 gives plenty of power to get you there too. Only downfall is the gas mileage but I knew that before I bought it so I have no place to complain about that.Sep 12, 2009

This SUV is well built and can take everything i have thrown at it. The AWD feature is very nice when you are doing some lite off roading, but the 4 wheel lock is perfect for the Off Roading I do.Jun 13, 2009

When you put your foot down on that pedal it just jumps off the gate. Then if you take the stability control off you can go sideways with t. I also lke the leather interior very nice. The only thing i don't like is the whopping 13 miles per gallon.May 28, 2009

i had this car for 6 yrs now with 75 k miles on it,i traveled with it 3 times, one of those time was 1500 km (about 14.5 hrs with the borders and fuel stoppages) consecutive ride at an average speed of 130 km/hr, it felt comfortable all the way and very quiet, the AC is very hot at summer and you can take turns on high speeds at all.
beside that no real problems with car.
I did some off-roading with it and it good... definitely not as good as Toyota's but it handle mild terrains.Nov 21, 2008

I dont like anything thing about de car it all rox!!!
It is powerfull on road and on sand it is very solid on accidents it has 5 gears chrom trimming and chrom rims with v8 engine.

I just liek the way that this car handles. It rides so well on long trips that it is well worth what it gets in MPG. Seeing as how I drove a lot it was a great car. I got this car to tailgate and for family trips and it has exceeded ex\pectations. Reliable, feel safe in any weather. I almost always have my kids with me and I love how safe it makes us feels. Handles like a dream. Gas mileage isn't too bad either. The only this I can say I would change is the way you get into the third row seating, that is a bit awkward.Jul 21, 2008

06 durango headlights, hazards flashing after battery replacement
Hi, I recently replaced the battery on my 06 Durango, after connecting the terminals the headlights and hazards won't stop flashing, also there is a red dot blinking on the right top corner of the dashboard. It looks like if the alarm went off but no horn at all, but am not sure if its the original alarm system because I cant use the transmitter key that came when i bought the truck. So far I tried disconnecting the battery again and leaving it out for a while, resetting fuses, opening the door with the key but nothing seems to work. I really appreciate any help with this issue, thanks.
