Perhaps The Best Family Vehicle On The Road — Even though the 2005 Volvo XC70 is a sibling to the V70, it comes with an enhanced suspension and SUV-like characteristics that give it a sportier, more aggressive appearance with sure footing from the all-wheel drive. Drives well, parks easily, and comes with all the creature comforts in the cabin. Under the hood, it features a 208 horsepower 2.5-liter low-pressure turbocharged inline 5-cylinder with a 5-speed geartronic transmission as standard. The XC70 features seating capacity for up to five, as well as dual zone auto climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, power accessories, supple leather seating, and ABS. There is, perhaps, no better vehicle for a family of five on the road today.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Powerful turbocharged engine that still gets a respectable 21-mpg on the highway, retractible / pop-up booster seats in 2nd row for children, cargo net divider, aggressive styling, all-wheel drive

Cons: Some interior noise, but this was likely due to the cross-bars on the roof rack.

I Wish It Had A Much Cleaner Interior, But It's A Family Car. — I love my Volvo wagon because it's safe. I'm not the world's best driver, yet I don't worry about my kids getting hurt if we were in an accident. It gets decent gas mileage for an AWD car (18/23). There are never any rattles or noises, not even wind sound. The interior is luxurious, with walnut trim and glove leather seating. It is fun to drive, because it's always what I wanted for a family car. As my husband said, "You told me that this is your dream car." And, he was right.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Safety

Cons: Holds only 5 passengers

One Of The Best Cross Country Car! — Great performance with 163 HP, very good acceleration and top speed. But the engine, a 2.4 TD (with 5 cylinders) raise the costs of ownership... 7.8 gas liters for 100 km. The braking system is very effective, proportioned to the technical characteristics. High build quality for a plus safety. luxurious and spacious interiors. ... in other words a great car.

Pros: everything

Cons: gas mileage

I Wouldn't Buy It Again. Too Many Costly Repairs — The car drives very well and I never felt tired, even after long trips. My main problem with this car was the high cost of repairs and maintenance. By 60k miles, I had already replaced numerous parts including CD player, radiator, brake and water pumps. I also had problems with the ignition halo in the steering wheel column that left me sitting with my kids far from home since no override was designed for the system. Clearly not the high quality car I was promised by the dealership.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Handles well and is a nice quiet ride

Cons: Poor quality design and high, routine maintenance costs.
