How can I tell what is running my battery down on a 05 Chevy Avalanche?

The Chevy Avalanche pickup-SUV got touch screen navigation, some minor exterior enhancements, and radio controls in the steering wheel for the 2005 model year. The Avalanche now comes in 8 trims divided into two groups: LS and LT. Of the 8, 3 have RWD and 5 have AWD. You'll have your pick between a 5.3 L, 295 hp V8 or an 8.1 L, 325 hp V8 powertrain.
All trims have 4 doors and seat 6. On average, expect 15 mpg in the city and 20 on the highway. Max towing capacity ranges from around 8,000 lbs. to 12,000 lbs. Passenger capacity reaches 120.2 cubic feet.
Overall, the powerful V8 engines, towing capacity, and solid handling get props from reviewers. However, compared to other pickups, the Avalanche could use more engine choices and better steering. In any event, the popular crossover gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to mixing an SUV and a pickup truck.

I feel the Avalanche is the best looking and manly truck GM has ever built and I think this truck should be brought back in production. Im think it will be just like the 55 chevy in a few more years.

This is the Swiss Army knife of trucks. It is the most functional and comfortable truck you can buy. You can carry 4 x 8 sheets of plywood or up to 5 people. Why every truck doesnt have the Avalanches rear fender storage compartments is beyond me. Thoughtful touches throughout, like the steps on the corners of the rear bumper and handholds at the rear of the bed to help you get into the bed, removable rubber mat for the bed, bed lights that also illuminate the fender storage compartments, lights in the outside mirrors that illuminate the ground when you open the doors, it just goes on and on. Why GM decided to cease production is a mystery, but it was a good thing for current Avalanche owners since they are now at a premium on the used truck market. Only complaint I have is that the transmissions are a known week spot in all GM 5.3 liter engined trucks, mine failed at 130K and had to be replaced. Other than that mechanically these trucks go forever. May 22, 2021

I love the 3 panel covers in the rear - great to take one off and let the muddy dogs enjoy the ride in the rear while keeping the front of the truck clean. Also like the side compartments - can hold a ton of tools and safety gear. Really versatile, well designed vehicle. Very bummed they stopped making them.Apr 02, 2015

Went from a 6 young kids family camper to teens and needed a truck to haul a boat and , things for the new house finally. So I traded in the Suburban which I loved for the Avalanche which is built on the same frame. The truck runs great and still is. The only issue I really have is all the plastic they put around the bottom of the truck and bed of the truck. I guess they all are now but it doesn't take much to scratch it or bend it. After owning 6 cars and 3 trucks this one has had the least amount of issues, runs strong after 9 years, 125k miles. Very comfortable for long hauls, fits 4 Large men easily while pulling a 14' trailer full of motorcycles. Versatility of the rear window and seats to open the cargo area is awesome! The two built-in toolboxes that double as coolers for tailgating is absolutely genius. May 23, 2014

this is a great turning, stopping, ride, comfort, handling SUV. The few things we didn't like about it were the running boards are too wide making getting out awkward. We have owned several other smaller SUV. This one has it all. The size just doesn't feel big. It feels like a 5 seater SUV. This is a great truck almost 200K and still running strong. Pulls trailer around most of the time, and still achieves reasonable gas mileage. Overall has been a great truck and hopefully will still get another 100K out of it moving forward. Sep 19, 2013

I love this truck. Wish I did not have to sell. Buying a house. Most versatile vechicle out there. Only thing I would change is make it a diesel for better fuel milage. With 8.1 you get about 10-13 mpg.

The only thing that I have to complain about the truck is the low MPG's. Everything else is awesome. Handles great when towing, looks and drives good. Lots of cargo room in the back and a large back seat with plenty of leg room.Sep 16, 2012

I love the Avalanche, except for the fact that I have put quite a few dollars in repairs, and for the fact that it is underpowered for what I need in towing power. For a single guy it is great. It looks great, sounds great (after an aftermarket exhaust), but for a famly of 4 with a 25 foot camper, no! I will be selling and upgrading to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck!Oct 23, 2011

its performansce is exelent cant really complain.

WOW what an incredible vehicle! I chose this
particular truck due to its versatility. i can have all of
the comforts of a 5 passenger truck and not have the
wheelbase/bed to long. THis has the biggest Literage
engine that you can put in a truck at 8.1 L. After
having this motor everything else seems to be left in

The driver's side window works fin, but the pass and rear windows wont go up? I've found that by turning the ignition off, then on again, the pass window would go up a little. I don't try the rear windows. I repeated turning the ignition on and off several times to get the window up. Any ideas?
