The 2004 Ford Expedition continued to enjoy market momentum from the previous year's redesign. Drivers and reviewers praised its agile-for-its-size handling, thanks to independent front and rear suspension. Of course, the roomy, comfortable interiors and many standard safety features were part of the '04 Expedition's appeal as well.
Three trims were offered: an XLS (with an accent on sports styling) was introduced for the first time, joining the XLT and Eddie Bauer models. An NBX options package, which focused on features that improved off-road performance, was available for the XLT model only.
Drivers looking for luxury could opt for the Eddie Bauer line, which featured rich leather upholstery and rugged but elegant detailing. The XLS and XLT models had plenty of comfort built in, though, including anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, heated fold-away power mirrors with security approach lamps, power door locks, remote keyless entry, power-adjustable pedals, and an AM/FM premium stereo with CD/cassette player.
Strength was also a big selling point for the 2004 Expedition. With an optional towing package, and the upgraded 5.4 liter, 260 horsepower Triton V8 engine, the Expedition could haul up to 8,950 pounds. The basic engine (a 4.6 liter overhead cam Triton V-8) put out 232 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.
All this space, comfort, and power has its price. In addition to its hefty sticker cost, the '04 Ford Expedition isn't a very cheap date at the gas pumps, either: it's rated at 13-15 mpg city, 17-19 mpg highway, depending on model.

i would only have opted for leather seats as a preference. Otherwise, this car has been amazing for our family with 4 kids we still had room to bring friends. We even move a bed fully assembled in the back. We have camped and put a full/queen size mattress in the back with all the seats folded flat and could sleep without a tent. Feb 09, 2014

I dont really dislike anything about this car, hey its an American Family car, and you will really appreciate this car Summer or Fall.

Overall satisfied...times I need more truck, or 4wd. The mileage is pretty bad compared to late model vehicles. Repairs have been above average. Engine died prematurely and was replaced. It has been comfortable on long trips for 5 with the ability to carry a few days worth of luggage.Nov 19, 2012

Great car has great torque pulls my 29 ft camper with ease
hauls all the kids around and its very quite with the entertainment package
Could use a little more HP but its made for pulling and hauling kids around .

I like everything about this car other than the putting gas in it. That is the only flaw. Especially when gas prices are going to be about $4.50 a gallon in the next couple of months. Other than that an awesome SUV to own.Apr 04, 2012

its a beast, it can haul everything i want. and its pretty fast for a truck. its pretty too, does great offroad, not great on milage but i can squeeze 17 mpg out of it. it really helps me and my friends get to where we need to go, and i can camp out in itOct 30, 2009

My expedition was a great vehicle, it was solid,
flawless and relieble I use my truck for towing a
large boat (6000 pounds) and long travel on dirt
roads in the remote wilderness up north. its is the
most solid and relieble and built well. I had a Eddie
Bauer 4Wd edition with the captians chairs and the
dvd system in the back. The electric fold thrid row
seats are a neccesity as how easy it is. and the
raised driving positin and strong yet efficiant V8
engine devloping 300 horsepower. and has a
driving range of 950 km when towing a 6000
pound boat. the torque of the engine is

Horrible Perfomance, Not a good acceleration, Okay braking, and Okay handling. It always seems to need repairs, but you know what they say. Fix or Repair daily. It has a decent interior, but I hate the exterior. Pretty expensive also. And it is not fun to driveJun 24, 2009

The intire inside was leather. It was the Ediie Bauer edition so it had some extras. Like it's air suspension when you were moving it would lower, but when you stopped it went up, or the other way around? Either one. It had a very nice look to it, but I like the new ones better. its got a dvd player leather seats and a six disc changer and it is gray. Its a 8 peson and great for taking everywhere we go its perfect for my family its my moms car and she only has to fill it up about every week and a half or two Aug 11, 2008

I love my truck!! It's got plenty of storage for all our trips and sits everyone comfortably. Plus it has a DVD player built into the ceiling with wireless headphones!! And instead of having to move the seat around - we can just adjust the foot pedals!! That is a nice feature since Chip and I both drive it.Jul 31, 2008

I love the Ford Expedition. It is comfortable, spacious, and can tow 8650 pounds. It is big and safe, and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere this very instant. I especially like the fact that it was built in Michigan, by Americans. The profits from this vehicle go to FoMoCo, rather than some Japanese one. This particular Expedition was in use with the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department in North Dakota, where they put approximately 95,000 miles on it. Unable to get into 2004 Expedition
Hi, All of a sudden my key fob wouldn’t unlock the Expedition, so I tried the physical key, and that won’t work either. The car was working fine. I can’t even check the battery because I can’t get in to release the hood. I tried putting WD40 on my key and getting the inside of the lock lubed up, that didn’t help. Is there some secret about the Expedition that would stop the physical key from working? Thanks for any help!

2004 Ford Expedition - Vacuum Lines?
WRONG IMAGE ATTACHED FIRST TIME So no air from the main front vents. I've looked on here and other sites trying to track down the culprit. All vac lines "look" good. I have no way to test vacuum. I did find one oddity - pictured. I can't seem to find anywhere that this line would go - no open plugs or hanging hoses. Is this supposed to look like this or does the hose go somewhere? It's gotta go somewhere - it can't be a drain or the infamous "extra hose." I greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Have a great weekend.
