Old School Sports Car With Character — If you have a soft spot for the old big engined English roadsters like TR 6's and big Healey's, then this car will make you smile every time you see it, hear it, and drive it. Best of all, all the hassles those old cars forced on you like dodgy quality, high maintenance needs, and questionable ergonomics are simply not part of the equation here. While Miata's fill a part of traditional sports car market, this car slots cleanly above the Mazda in materials quality, character, and engine performance. That said , while Miatas might haunt autocrosses, the M Roadster is better suited to tooling around on perfect afternoons...it can get a little squirrely as you feel that understeer, short wheelbase, and torque begin to argue with one another. Still, if you want an inexpensive, fun, stylish, well-built, and well engineered sports car...a used Z3 M Roadster is a great choice.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Great sports car with a traditional feel. Motor has plenty of torque for US-style driving, sounds  great, and is fairly economical...averaging around 22 mpg in mixed highway/city driving. Seats are very comfortable and do a great job of keeping you in place when driving at speed. Very easy to maintain and a relatively simple machine.

Cons: Sure, the trunk is small, but not overly so. Car is a solid performer, but certainly not a rocket. The stereo is just average.

Cure For A Mid-life Crisis — There is nothing I dislike about this car. Acceleration is instantaneous and effortless, braking is quick and smooth. Corners like a boa constrictor wrapping around dinner. It definitely provides an adrenaline rush every time I turn the key. MPG is pretty good at around 24. Heated seats make sunny winter days, top-down days.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Everything about this car is fantastic.

Cons: Small trunk, so either my golf clubs go or my husband goes ... it's usually my golf clubs.
