XJ8 98 lights will not turn off . Why.
Even with car off and key removed lights stay on. Have to unhook battery to get lights to go out. Will not turn off with switch on auto, or off,

I love everything about this car I give it a 9.5 out of ten it would get a ten if the gas milage was better in the city. On the highway with the cruise set at 70 I was getting 26.4 average. The city and I live in Boston where it's grid lock most of the day the mileage suffered. It can take about 20 to 30 min just to drive 4 or 5 miles. My car turned heads! It might have been a 98 but it as in showroom condition. It was so nice it was put on the cover of the New England Jaguar clubs news letter the Coventry Cat.Sep 29, 2014

This is the finest car I have every owned - maybe not the best - but finest. Truly a great driving car. I am glad I own it. Jaguar has a less than stellar reputation, but my experience has been great - the maintenance I have done is normal for an older car and the maintenance costs are in line with other cars. I do research the best prices and parts and my mechanic will use parts I provide

Call me a traditionalist but this body style from a sedan is one of my most favorites. So much so this is the second one I’ve owned and can tell you I’m not a fan of the 2011 XJ’s.
I love the ride and sportiness of the XJR. The only downside I can say has been I have to travel too far to have serviced by a mechanic who knows jaguars.
I will eventually graduate to a Super V8 and keep forever.

Performance - Very fast and powerful V8 engine, lovely smooth auto box
Build Quality - Well built and tough
Appearance - Retro good looks, still look very expensive and posh, loads of toys inside and very nice leather
Cost Of Ownership - Very expensive, drinks petrol, average about 16 - 18 mpg around town and 25 - 30mpg on a run, parts expensive too from jaguar so buy on Ebay for bits and bobs
Fun Factor - Obviously not a sporty looking car as it was built for luxury but has the performance. Very fast and powerful. Holds the road like glue for such a massive car, but the big fat tyres help.Sep 23, 2010

Amazing. Great buld. Great engine. There is some problems with overheating, but none that are overall in the make of the car. Cost of ownership is decent. It's an amazingly fun car to drive. I would suggest buying this care. Nov 07, 2009

The Jaguar XJ8 has to be one of the most beautiful cars around. Its performance is excellent and ride comfort is out of this world. Can anyone beat the British for sumptuous use of wood and leather in a car's cabin. There's little to rival the growl of a 4 litre V8 when you turn the key and every drive feels like an occasion! I loved this car, it would hold a hard corner at 80 mph and could even hold a power slide before correcting itself. The drivers seat was the most comfortable, and the interior was excellent. Unbelieveable acceleration, solid handling. Likes to kick the back end out on wet corners and round-abouts! Brakes could be bigger for such a heavy, powerful car.
Build quality is solid but has required a few small, 'niggly' repairs.
The most beautiful car on the road - grace, space and pace!
Cost of ownership - Astronomical rather than Economical.

Hits the limiter at 165 on the speedo and still wants to go. MPG is around the mid to late teens knocking around, although it will do 23-28 MPG on a run. A lot of car for not a lot of money very comfortable and feels special I would defo have another.Apr 14, 2008

Only buy one off the jag dealer, so if it needs fixing it will get fixed properly. Mine had
gearbox trouble at 50K. But it is such a beautiful car, i'd buy one again. It's a real event to

can I diagnose my car with OBD2 scanner w/out engine light on?
XJ8 from 1998, has a rough idle & up to 25 MPH, has lost power, maxes at 45 MPH (without coughing) engine light is Not illuminated, engine did Not overheat. Can I use a OBD2 scanner to diagnose without the engine light being on.. also will a OBD2 Scnr let me know if its as bad as a timing chain?

is my transmission bad?
My car hesitates accelerating i can press on the gas and it it will take 3 seconds to start moving while making terrible noises and rpm's will go high, it will also struggle going up a hill. Last week i flushed the transmission fluid hoping that will fix my problems but all that did was fix my issue where my car would get stuck in park. After i pumped gas there was a coolant leakage and made it seem if the engine was overheating or something was just evaporating.

I have a different problem, my Jaguar shifts fine at first, once warm it will only go in reverse. Any ideas of what this could be?
98' Jaguar XJ8, at first it's fine once it warms up the car will only go into reverse. The engine has been rebuilt so I was wondering if maybe something may not have been connected properly at that time or if this is a common problem.
