I think it can have a lower price. Six grand is a little high for 20 year old truck.

Overall, A Reliable Truck That Does What It's Intended For. —

I like the way my family adores the functionality of this SUV. We are a family of six and we can all fit into it including our stuff and gear, with room to spare. We can even load our bags on the roof and secure these directly onto the stock crossbars without need for a roof basket. Everything about this vehicle is no-nonsense. No frills necessary, and it gets the job done. I keep everything oem, and I have had no headaches. The only non-oem part in this truck is the stereo head unit, and that is due mainly to the fact that cassette tapes are no longer sold these days except in vintage shops. I also like the fact that this ride is quite rare here in the Philippines, especially in this trim, pepper red body color and with this motor, so heads turn and eyes follow us down any road we traverse. My wife regularly applies petroleum jelly or castor oil to the leather seats to keep them supple in this tropical clime, how's that for car-love? The issues with the ball joints and brake rotors can be avoided by more frequent servicing, which means a bit of a spike in expenses for maintenance. The problem with the plastic on the power seat was resolved by our local machine shop which fabricated a steel replacement. It was rather expensive, but since it was a one-time expense I went for it. We've had none of the horror stories we've read about this SUV, thank God. We can live with other minor issues, the important thing is that this truck makes our family trips a more enjoyable experience for each one of us. My four kids have their respective places in the truck, and they have things they like about each. We love this truck, and we have no plans to part with it.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Good big rig looks. Cavernous cargo space with 2nd and 3rd row seats folded down. Solid construction. Reliable, powerful and quick. Good handling, minimal roll and bounce. Starts every time. Easy to work under the hood. Simple job to reset ecu even without scan tool. It can tow heavier weights than most. No engine issues. Overall, a great SUV.

Cons: Fuel consumption is expected but can be improved. Distributor wires have to be meticulously routed to avoid engine shake (woe to the uninitiated). Brake fluid reservoir miniature cracks. Cruise control gave out too soon. Plastic components on driver's power seat easily breaks.

Awesome — Was knocking when we bought it. It had a 5.2l 318 in it from factory... We had a 96 RamVan 2500 that wed been trying to sell unsuccessfully that had a 5.9L 360 in it... The older engine had a few issues, but I was prepared to tackle the swap. Had to change ALL the engine mounted sensors as well as the throttle body for it to plug up without "adapting" the wiring harness. Cost of swapping the sensors, etc was minimal, since I had a second engine.... New water pump, timing set, intake/exhaust manifold gasket sets, oil filter adapter gasket, front and rear main seals, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket.... pretty much all the externals.... past that... it was a HECK of a time.... but I did it.... MAN was it worth it!!!! Thats a mighty fun little SUV.... PLENTY of power

Pros: LOVE it!!! It ws way old when we bought it, and the motor was knocking, but we got that fixed. (Read below)

Cons: Its only a 1/4 ton "truck", ( its on a Dodge Dakota platform), so that makes it a very light duty truck. Only problem I can complain about

1998 Dodge Durango Slt —

I have owned this Durango for about five years. It has been a very reliable vehicle for me. Initially I had some maintenance costs that were incurred because the previous owner neglected to service the truck as it needed to be. Once all of the initial repairs had been made, most were very minor $200 or less fixes, it has been a solid multiple passenger vehicle. The major annoyance for me in this vehicle was the two most common problems with the Driver's power seat. The first problem is it has linkages that when failed allow the seat to rock back and forth on acceleration and deceleration similar to a rocking chair motion. The second problem with the seat is the forward/backwards adjustment bushings, when failed allow the seat to slide back and forth under accel and decel conditions. The factory radio uses a weird rubber insert to give the tactile feeling of a detent as you are turning the volume knob. When this failed on mine I could no longer control the volume which unfortunately was at an elevated position. The 4WD is an option that some may not need but it is very capable off road as well. The 5.9L (360 cubic inch displacement) V-8 engine and the four wheel drive setup makes for a thirsty combination but it wasn't made for fuel economy. Overall a very good SUV/Truck for me.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Multiple Passenger ability, Handling, Cost of ownership

Cons: Radio Volume Knob Failure, Driver's Power Seat Problems

Rusty But Trusty — I love the old style durango! 2004 or older are the best! They are big and tough, but not huge like a Tahoe or Expedition. They like gas, but if you take it easy it isn't too bad. Very consistent fuel consumption with my 5.9L V8. I really like the towing power. Makes me feel like I can do anything or go anywhere!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: You can haul just about anything!  People, cargo, luggage, pull a trailer, you name it!

Cons: Big gas loving engine

Failure! — Will never own a first year model 'anything' ever again! This truck has been a mechanical nightmare from very early on. Only good news is that with 170K I haven't replaced the transmission yet. Understand the newer Durangos are far more reliable but not enough for me to chance owning another.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: 4WD when you need it

Cons: Rear end is loose in watery conditions and when not in 4WD

Durango — I thought it was a good and reliable car. I didn't have many issues wit it.The car was used a a family vehicle and we utilized the backset often for the kids friends. When the third row was down it was roomy enough for transpo of the dog and we even used it once or twice to load up to move out of our appartment.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: It was mine...pay off and owned.

Cons: The the frequency of fill ups and I didn't like the color.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Good power and performance

Cons: if you cant handle the v8
