I wish I could have owned it it's a nice car they're really good cars I've had one before a 540i sport and it was a great car manual outstanding but I sold it to a person who had too much money and no brainsOct 05, 2025

it drives wery good, the braking is exelent. all the sercvis' have been follow'd.
front seats is litle tired, but backseat is as good as new. no big repairs.
i just love it. use a bit to much gas for my taste, but it will go fast when you do a kick downOct 18, 2011

Performance: 4.4 V8 is fast. Brakes are great, handles as well as the Saloon which is no bad thing.
Build Quality: Good, as expected.
Appearance: Good looking, rare alloys
Cost of Ownership: Thirsty, don't expect the quoted MPG
Fun Factor: Fun to drive, feels safe so you can push it a bitMay 05, 2011

Performance : inline 6 engine is torquey and quick off the line. Braking is excellent, handling is admirable for a 12 year old machine.
Build : for 126,000 miles, it's holding up well
Appearance : stylish and classy without being gaudy, BMW's just age well.
Cost : 28mph highway, but I always treat it to supreme gas because it deserves it.
Fun : for a mid-size sedan, it is damn fun. Just wait til i mod it.Dec 22, 2009

Car looks nice, the engine is easy to work on except to take off the fan which is mechanical. Not any electrical problems and easy to keep up. Im at 220k now. Preformance wise it is average for a 6 cylinderNov 12, 2009

~100k miles, need's a lot of maintenance done... can be
expensive
has Eisenbach dual exhaust, Dinan stage 1 performance chip,
magnaflow cold air intake.
pumping out ~310 hp, 340 ft-lb, 0-60 in 5 sec or less.
Comfortable back seat, everything is made with excelence.Sep 25, 2009

performance- acceleration, handling, and brakes are great
build quality- few repairs, new front brakes, new tranny
appearance- a few small dents, no cupholders
cost of ownership- 123,000 miles
fun facts- never been pulled over driving this car, it drives great, and is extremely fun no matter what the weather is likeSep 24, 2009

I quite liked this "da" car for driving around town. for a 10 year old car, it performed really well. very heavy on the juice though and had to get rid of it in the end. it was the frist rear wheel drive car i owned which was good fun on a wet day.Feb 23, 2009

Its Very Fast - 155mph and 60 in 5.4 seconds, it has a straight thru exhaust which hits 110.9 Db and runs on LPG so is really cheap to run 65 quid from the round trip to aberdeen. Plus its very smooth and comfortable to drive.
And it runs mid 14's at santa pod with 100mph+ terminal speeds.Jan 11, 2009

The car is very reliable and has good build quality. However its extremely boring to drive and you just blend in with all of the housewifes and old men going to play golf. I have the sport package and its the only way to go because it really enhances the visual appeal of the car. One thing i really don't like is the front bumper design. It is a disaster and a curb catcher. Also to much body roll. The hvac is poorly thought out. For instance in order to turn on rear defrost i have to turn on the hvac. I would suggest this car to the average individual who just wants to get from point A to B. Overall great car but boring.Nov 26, 2008

Needs a little more under the hood... Caos of ownership is expected to be a little high, resale is reflective of cost of ownership. Next one will be a 540i. Great handling for a 4 door. Gas mileage is good. Overall I look forward to getting into it every day.Oct 21, 2008

NOTHING! Its perfect - only a sunroof is missing - otherwise it has more equipment than you can ask for... Including Buffalo Leather Comfort Seats and double glazed (thermo) windows, Navigation / TV, Memory seats, xenon lights, M steeringwheel, 18 inch M alloys, Air suspention rear, M suspension front, and i could go on... And you CAN NOT get a better car for the money. Trust me...Sep 06, 2008

It has a great acceleration so the acceleration feeling is great as stuck in your seat. Very good stability in turning on high speed . a bit heavy but safe , fast and stable, it also got a great turbo power, increasing its acceleration. hope you will enjoy it like i did.Aug 25, 2008

Very comfortable and sophisticated car to drive, but almost too boring. This car makes you enjoy normal commuting and 99% of driving, whereas the older models are not as comfortable but can offers thrills this one can't. I've owned it for a little over a year now, and not too much has gone wrong with it. Fuel economy is good for an engine this large.Jul 29, 2008

Other than KBB not reflecting the real value of this car's worth, it's a collector for me especially being a 6 spd manual sport edition.May 14, 2008

The 4.4 V8 really makes the 540 an unbelievably fast car. The 6 speed manual only adds the
fun to it.Apr 01, 2008

Very plain "jane" interior looks. The traditional red with black lighting system wears on the eyes during night excursions. Performance was great during long trip travel and allowing for absolute comfort however when asking a little more of the BMW for cornering and power follow through in regards to turns, there was lethargic, sluggish, and even a hesitant reaction when the throttle was applied.Mar 29, 2008

Smooth to drive, seemingly easy to drive, considering it was a big car.
I'd definitely have a newer one.Jan 02, 2008
