1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review
Jacob says:
This was my first car. Had the 5.2 V8, 220000 miles when I got it. Loved my Jeep. She burned a little oil in the winter but other than that, ran like it was brand new. Plenty of power from the V8. Power seats were comfortable, great off road, felt like the king of the road. Sadly, she died last summer. Id give anything to get my baby back.

Lovin My Jeep — I love the immaculate condition she is in. I love even more how no matter how cold or hot it is outside she runs like a champ always getting me where I need to go, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE INCLUDED! I treat her right, she treats me right!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Reliable and strong. I wouldn't trade her for anything! Luxury in a vehicle almost Twenty years old.

Cons: The only issue I have with my Jeep is a typical problem for these vehicles...the headliner!

Longest Lasting Jeep I'll Ever Own (10+ Years & Counting) — The auto transmission. It's guaranteed to have gear slip failure between 100K-150K miles. After being overhauled, it's good to go for a LONG time though. The all-time 4WD transfer case is kinda lame. I need to swap it for a NP249 with 2WD shifting option, which would help with MPGs.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Looks, styling, reliability, power, 4WD is near flawless, stability, cargo space. Looks amazing lifted.

Cons: Auto-transmission until it's overhauled. Having to add a tranny radiator to keep it cooler (shoulda been stock). The clutch fan sucks. I've swapped it for a more modern e-fan from a WJ Grand Cherokee. It isn't perfect but it definitely stops the constant eating of water pumps & motor drag. Rear tire takes up a lot of space in the back. I removed it & pray against flats to give myself spare room.

Overall I Love My Jeep And Would Recommend It To Anyone. — I love everything about this Jeep, from the style to the drivability. Even at 18yrs and 250k miles overall, this Jeep is still in tip top shape, from the inside out. It stills drives smooth and has very little rust, granted it has been very well maintained, but it has never been garage kept and still not a lot of rust(only a small amount on bottom of back hatch where water tends to settle)

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's very spacious with leather interior and power everything. It drives smooth, transmission shifts seamlessly,  any maintenance costs are pretty cheap.

Cons: Its not 4x4. This Jeep came with a V6 motor, which blew a piston at just 120k, it's never been driven hard and never been off road or dogged out. When it blew the piston, I had an in-line 6 motor with roughly 60k on it put in instead of another V6. Since then, and 130k miles later, I've never had an issue with it.

The Guzzler — I enjoyed owning this car until about when Obama took office because of gas prices now, i had to sell. It was a daily driver one of my favorite features was the quadra trac 4 wheel drive mode when i went off road with it!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Power, 4 wheel drive, roomy, exhaust, lots of torque

Cons: Gas mileage and front-end design with the headlights.

Good Car Would Buy Another Jeep With The Inline 6 Engine — I dont really care for the look and how small it is for a mid size suv. But i would buy the car again they are kinda cheep and easy to work on by all means! All around good car

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It is a jeep so nothing more to say then jeep are some good suv to drive with the inline 6 it has power and gets good gas mileage unlike the v8

Cons: as this car it is the one jeep that is everywhere i dont really care for the style of the laredo rather have the sport

1996 Jeep Gc 5.4 Liter V8 All Time 4 Wheel Drive — Performance - it has performed great right up until we had to replace the engine. But then again I still can't complain because i have no clue how well the previous owners took care of it. Build Quality - so far the only repairs are the brakes, muffler, engine, and drag link Appearance - well the outer appearance is great, but once i took off the front bumper, there was evidence of the vehicle being in an accident. Cost of Ownership - its getting about 18 mpg and we paid $2500 for it Fun Factor - this is fun to drive but my only grip is that it handles too well in the snow lol. with it being all time 4 wheel drive it makes it hard to have fun lmao

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: the power that it has

Cons: the fact that its all time 4x4 so its hard to have fun in the snow

Black Beauty — What more is there to say. She revs up and drive like a semi-truck and purrs like a kitten on the road. Doesn't get any better than that. Gives you the feel of a big truck. With the V-8 it has in it, it sounds like it as well.

Pros: The open rode feel you get even in the city is Awesome!

Cons: I do not like the spare wheel on inside trunk. Takes up needed space.

Love It — Fun offroad. not as quick as it could be it has a little bit of rust but not very much. Still running after 200000 miles and no problems with it. Fun in the rain because it slides all over the place.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: full time 4x4

Cons: ride noise. part time 4x4
