Ever feel like driving a tank? Well, the military probably won't let you, so get the next best thing: a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This thing is a beast, with a 5.9-liter V8 under the hood with 144 hp. It only comes with a 3-speed automatic transmission, no overdrive available, and is rumored to get terrible gas mileage (EPA rated at 10 mpg city and 13 mpg highway), but it can drive through, over or around just about any weather.
Surprisingly, there are a few comforts available in this beast of a road machine. Air conditioning, power windows, and a cassette player all came standard in the 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, though an optional sunroof was available for more daring Jeep owners. The sunroof wasn't powered, though - can't make owning a tank too easy.
Speaking of which, owners of the 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer had little but great things to say about the wagon. It's wonderful in the snow. It can unstick just about anything that's stuck in the snow. It has a lot of interior room and is very comfortable. Most people did say that the 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer gets rather atrocious gas mileage, but the engine, 4WD, and interior more than make up for the fuel inefficiency, at least as far as owners are concerned. Highly recommended by nearly all owners.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer really enjoy its classic look and feel, often calling it their dream car. Many appreciate the sturdy and fun driving experience, especially off-road. However, the gas mileage is a common downside, with several drivers noting it consumes fuel quickly. While the interior maintains its charm, some owners mention needing repairs and maintenance over the years."
Drives like a dream, beast of an engine, the rocker panel has rusted out other than that its a great car, the interior is just like new from 88 and no cheap junk, requires a little maintenance, its a gas guzzler about 11 all around mpg but thats beside the point, the most fun car ever and its a real looker too.
November 28, 2008I love the look of the waggy and the ride. I love to drive it on long and short trips. It's hard to compare the experience to modern cars. Yes, it lacks a lot of modern conveniences and isn't as reliable as a new Toyota but it makes up for it in its classic utilitarian style.
October 27, 2013I've only had this truck for 3 days so I'm still getting used to it. I love researching what I can restore but this is also my daily car so it can become overwhelming with the amount of work that could be done. its perfect for our adventures that involve our two giant dogs and extra gear. very fun to drive in a totally different way than any other car i've ever owned. Historically i've had manual sporty cars with quick suspension and response. this is a whole different experience.

December 8, 2011I enjoy this car; it is not good on gas mileage but it is beautiful and I get lots of looks when I drive it. Good off roading and sturdy vehicle. Parts are expensive but some companies online specialize in parts. Car is heavy and motor is not really strong enough to offer much power at take off.
January 4, 2013This truck is my Baby......perfect interior, very good exterior. The only bad thing I can say about this truck is the gas mileage is not good, but it will run strong and forever. Drove to norther Wyoming from southern Arizona a couple of winters ago, had to use 4 wheel drive in the snow and pulled a big old 1/4 horse in a trailer back home and it ran fantastic, no problems and I hauled xxx all the way!
June 23, 2009my dream car for many years and i finally got one. so far so good having some battery/alternator trouble at the moment but who cares. interior needs some work. it is the ultimate cruisin machine. i love it and will keep it forever. it is horrible on gas. i'm gonna keep working on it so it will keep going!
January 23, 2011Its Big, Its Old, Its Ugly, but it is one cool old Jeep. I remember looking at these things when I was a little kid thinking what the heck is up with the Wood grain. But now I look at it and think Wow Jeep made somthing that really is hard to find now.
