I have a 85 GMC Sierra that is having trouble shifting into any gear. When I’m in park and it’s running after I’ve let it warm up it’s not going into gear. There is a loud “whine” that starts as soon as I shift it into any gear. If I go into reverse I don’t hear the RPM’s change and can feel the truck want to start moving backwards but then stops. When I apply gas the whine increases and the truck starts to move it just seems like I’m needing too much gas to get it to move. i’ve crawled underneath and can see that the shift linkage and arm is connected into the tranny and I can move it freely with my hand. All the fluid levels are good and no obvious leaks. Please help.

Recently I have experienced starting issues. One minute it starts and runs great, next time I try to start it it turns over but won't start. Let sit for awhile, turn key, won't start, turn key off, turn key again, starts up and runs great. A week later, same issue. I went to work everything great, went to go home, wouldn't start. Tried to turn key a few times, won't start, let sit about 15 min., turned key, started up. Stop to get gas 15 min. later, wouldn't start. Stranded for 2 hours. After several attempts, won't start. Tried to jump start battery level at 9 volts by now, no start. Called tow truck. Tow truck shows up, turned key one last time, truck started. Drove home, 78 miles worth, ran like a champ, no issues. 5.7; TBI 350; 2WD ;A/T; w/AC. Any suggestions?
My 88 gmc manual transmission will not engage into 1st or 2nd or reverse. My truck wont move when its in 1st gear .when i try to start it. Then will sometimes start when its in 1st gear with out clutch . stick shift acts like its going to shift when started but won't actuall engage .
