Truck Wont Fire/Start
my 1988 GMC S15 Sonoma just died one day on the road while i was driving it. It was like someone just unplugged my truck, & now all it does is turn over but not fire. I have spark, but it seems like its not getting gas.What would cause my engine to die like that while I was driving it down the highway, & how or what can i do to find & fix the problem without breaking the bank?

In the engine well is a round black plastic ball looking thing with a small hose--WHAT IS IT??
This sit above the fuel canister on the drivers side. Have no idea what it is used for. Pictures I have seen have this in them but do not denote what it is or what it does.
