1988 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Wagon RWDReview

Greatest Gm Car In Recorded History — this is our daily driver. you don't see these big wagons on the road anymore and that's a shame. me and my gf think that these eighties gm wagons are the best cars ever made. you can get one with 1000 euros or less. the original oldsmobile 307 engine is a wimp but when all the electrical and vacuum-things are working it's got a really nice low-end torque and very good gas mileage. spare parts are cheap and you can get them everywhere. but most of all, these wagons are fun to drive even if it is just a family car. small history lesson: the reason finland has a lot of these wagons is because of taxes and registeration. from sixties to june of 1990 you could import a CARGO CARRIER completely tax-free! and what makes a car cargo carrier? the size of cargo space off course. and if the car weighted over 1800 kilograms the size didn't matter. so you could get these wagons with a price of toyota corolla. the limitations of cargo carriers were another thing. you could only have the front seat and top speed was limited to 80kmh (52mph). these was no speedlimiter onboard, just a sticker in the rear. from 1988 to june 1990 there was a law that allowed an additional rear seat of 3 people for TEMPORARY USE ONLY. the seat had to be in 90 degree angle and it couldn't be thicker than 5cm (2") and that 5cm means the building material, stuffing and upholstery. when the rearseat law was passed, they started importin these wagons like crazy. brand new buicks, chevys, olds and pontiacs were bought and rear seats ripped apart. the government stopped that crazyness in june 1990. today all of the cargo carrier, plankseat cars are shunned by the community and everyone thinks you should drive a corolla or a volvo and wear shellsuit. but not me Pros: greatest automobile ever made Cons: more powerful engine would be great. a chevy 350tbi from early 90's would be good. direct fit and 200hp is enough for daily driver |

Love It. I'll Hate To See It Go — the outside door handles aren't designed for a minnesota winter. its hard to believe this was once an intercepter, so much as just a powerful family car. those cops probably didn't catch many people. sure its relatively fun to drive, but I have no idea who those seats were designed for. but it CAN be comfortable enough for a tall person, which is more than I can say about MANY being made today. handling is surprisingly great for a large american car of its age! Pros: its mine, its paid for and its got TONS of personality; especially for a clone Cons: its rusty, and ineffiecient |

Shows How Well An American Made Car Can Be. — I have only owned the car for only a week but the car was maintained well and looks great inside and out (great styling). No squeaks or rattles but sometimes has a noise from the distributor. The car was well built runs strong and the ride is smooth. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: well made Cons: N/A |

Ca- Price — got it when i was 15. she's my baby... rebuilt 350 w/305 heads, headers, straight pipes w/glasspacks. edelbrock performer intake and carb with the pretty edelbrock air cleaner. fireball comp cam, dual roller timing chain, high volume oil pump, high volume polished aluminum water pump, chrome breathers, 100 amp alternator, valve covers, more lil chrome and blue extras too. lost the ac and rocked out a "custom" (ha) electric fan. lots more room. :) few subs, amp, and 10 disc in the trunk. "polar bear" fur on the ceiling, dash and ... well more places. blue underbody and under the dash as well. woot rockin the steel wheels and shredded vinyl but all is well. Love to drive it, one of a kind. needs some body work, but will come with time. tons o memmories and lots o work, still makes me smile. Pros: pretty, beasty, fun. snorts and is just great. Cons: nothing, love it all |

Police Package — I love the power and response. On to of that the thing takes a beating and gives it back. All and all this car is one hell of a ride and makes a good impression after driving it. Of course the police package helps with that. I love this car. Pros: Fast solid reliable Cons: Gas pig |

Poor Mans Caddy — A beast!!! this car is in my opinion the most efficent vehicle chevorlet ever made. Used as police cars and taxi's theese cars were packed with different engine and suspensions, from a small v6 all the way to a 6.0 liter diesel. four doors lost of space and a trunk big enough for a couple bodies, luggage, groceries, and still have room for a couple of 15's. and still comfortable enough to take to the drive in. Pros: huge car, people usualy get the hell out of the way for Cons: gas gussler |

Wonderful Old Car — I drive this car on shopping trips because it holds so much. The car gets between 20 and 24 miles to gallon on trips. The car has all the equipment, power seats, windows, steering, and brakes. The car is comfortable and easy to drive. It has 74900 miles on it. The last owner drove it about 1200 miles per year for 5 years. It's almost like owning a new car. Owner for 1 years, 0 months Miles Driven per Year:10,000 Pros: Room, comfort, economical, very easy to drive. Cons: Transmission jerks when climbing long hills as if it cannot decide which gear to go to. |
