Fun, Awesome Fuel Mileage, Wicked In The Snow... — There's really nothing I don't like about this car... It's the MOST FUN car I've owned... Handles gravel and snow and ice covered roads like a hot knife through butter... Would love to convert mine to a VR6 2 L 16 valve but will come in due time..... Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: I love my "Little Rocket"...lol It's awesome on snow and ice covered streets here in Canada. I have driven many thousand K's in this car and it rides on rails through the prairie corners here at higher then posted speeds...lol The 1.8 L is exceptional with the 5 speed and a twin plate racing clutch and short throw shifter... Cons: The cooling system going up while driving through town at low speeds but get her on the highway and the temp stays down... ![]() Looking for a Used Golf GTI in your area?CarGurus has 2,681 nationwide Golf GTI listings starting at $2,650. |

I Have Alot Of Good Memories In This Car. — a little under power but can beat alot of cars through 3rd gear. handels like it is on rails. i have been driving this gti for ten years. i love it will never get rid of it! it's a blast Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: great handling Cons: shift linkage |

This Car Is A Street Legal Go Kart, With Enough Of A History/legacy To Be An Icon Of An Era. — Like-Handles like a go kart, lots of aftermarket support, VW Scene is heady. The GTI was the first hot hatch, and it was one of the first cars to start the trend of performance oriented compact cars. The MK2 is arguably the best balanced chassis VW has ever produced. Dislike-Underpowered 8v Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Handling, Legacy/History, VW scene, It's a benchmark Cons: Some people don't like the looks-idiots |

Best Car I Ever Had. — Great car with moderate power. Also quite good handling abilities. Interior bit old fashioned, but the recaro seats were a plus. Maybe a bit expencive on a student budget, but if you don't floor the gas all the time like I do, then it's quite economic. Hoped for better ICE system. ;) Pros: Power, speed, handling Cons: ICE, three doors only |

Gti Superb 86 — Well for a 1986 car,the car is really spectacular, good handling, still running with new cars in its engine capacity class. Interior is lovely. The exterior is hot but built on 0% aerodynamics. Maintenance cheap as hell knows what. Extreeeemly fun car for the young peolpe out there thats wants to have fun... Pros: great performance Cons: Aerodynamics |

Rebuilt Title — My car is super fun to drive. Its front wheel drive, which makes it very difficult to loose control of. It's been a pretty good car for being 22 years old, but every car has its problem. The car handles like a dream. With the suspension upgrade, and the cross drilled brakes it is so awesome! The car is a 4cl 8v motor, and does 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds, which is pretty fast for a 4cl. Pros: The car is great on gas, and still beats most cars in its class Cons: Because of the age of the car, it does have its costy repairs. |

Voooooolkswaaaaagen — not very fast, but it keeps up for what it is, this one was only the 1.8 model, fun cars to mess around with and whip around corners in but not so great when it comes to being reliable, cooling systems on these blow up like crazy. Pros: its german ;) Cons: cooling system booooo! |

Great Overall — i think that this car is so much fun. it has a little bit of speed to it. once you get past a certain point its not as good. comparatively speaking. great for something like autcross....super stiff suspension. love taking on the gravel roads...its super controlled because of the short wheelbase and i love this car...engine has over 225,000 miles on it and it runs like a dream. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: great gas mileage Cons: idle's badly (vacuum leak, fixed) |

An absolute blast and Go-Cart on the road. While maintaining good gas mileage in the 8v form, 36Mpg give or take your driving habits, This is a practical car that you can drive every day and still have a ton of fun in, They look great in GTI form with dual round headlights in my personal preferance and the recaro interior for sure. Handling is great, It grips and grips, And the power is there where you need it, Brakes are good and are incredible if you swap them with G60 Corrado brakes These cars in petrol, Are very, very reliable, Given you dont have one that has had the living daylights driven out of it for its entire lifetime, It should go for 300k before the engine totally gives out. My buddy had a Mk2, Ran it real low on oil for a whole year and had a hole in his transmission for a good bit of the time he owned it and the Motor and transmission didnt care, We fixed it up and got the hole sealed and replaced all its fluids, did a thorough tuneup she still ran like brand new. The CIS Fuel Injection seems to be more reliable than the infamous Digifart system which I honestly hated in my Golf but I loved my buddies Golf with the CIS system. Despite what people say about these cars or most Vws, Theyre actually really easy to work on but you do need to know your way around them, They are different, My main pain is dealing with the horrid CV Axle bolts that just love to strip even when cleaned well, Ive worked on several Mk2s and just started grinding them off. Replace them with Hex Bolts and use lock washers. vs2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Would Buy
Ranked 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6 worse.
"You get more fun and reliability from a Mk2 Golf if its been taken fair care of, The car is tons of fun, With the Recaro seats the Mk2 Is much more comfortable, Other than the ASR the Mk4 Jetta and Golf dont have a whole lot else on the Mk2 other than more powerful stock engines and although the newer Mk4s are essentially the same setup in a way to work on, There isnt nearly as much room and its a newer car, Its of course going to be harder to do repairs on than an older car" |
