Good Jeep To Start With — Would not recommend a 2 DR, the rear doors on this were small enough lol Read the pros & cons, Even all that, it was a reliable enough vehicle & fun to go Jeeping in! Could have used a cruise control system though.

Pros: Plenty of room for storage, groceries, STUFF etc! Good for ground clearance & Jeeping & lookin good lol

Cons: Not enough power, fuel mileage, or comfort in the back seats for anybody.. The rear liftgate door needed to be adjusted so much so that the Whole thing even needed to be all the way replaced! The throttle body injection made it run a little rough of funky.  Sensors went bad too here & there

Great Amc Product, Atleast It Isn't A Chrysler Jeep Immatation — I bought this 1986 Cherokee Chief 8 years age. I live in the High Sierras and it spends alot of time in 4x4. The 2.5 4 banger giver 24 highway as long as I keep it at 55-60. Thanks to Jimmy Carter it was built to give best economy at 55 mph, that was th legal speed limit in 1986. If you look at the spec's on horsepower and torque you will see torque peaks at 2650 RPM appx. That just happens to be it's RPM at 58 mph, That explains why it dropps MPG alot after 58mph. At 70mph that little 4 banger is realling humming like a sewing machine...getting 20 mpg. That is too high of rpm's for longgevity as well. If you are driving one of these your not a sports car guy anyways, take it slow enjoy the view thats whaqt a jeep is built for anyways, so don't whine bout power, but they do corner well.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: cornering, safety, visability, room

Cons: power, fuel economy at 70mph, narrow front seats

Hooptie — Picked this up on the cheap.... $200. Had 233,000 miles on it, so I just used it as a beater to drive around locally. Last year that AMC manufactured the Jeep brand. For its age, it seems to have held up remarkably well. Skidded into a curb this past winter pretty hard, but simply drove away with no issues. Took lots of abuse, and kept rolling anyway.

Pros: great beater

Cons: it is what it is....

Jeep — This vehicle was given to me by my uncle with 218,000 miles so I can't really complain bout it. It was a tank... Nothing could stop it. Not fast by any stretch, but for an 86 it was in good condition. Minimal rust, but a gray color and old. It was a true four wheel drive and sucked gas like no other, but nice in the winter.

Pros: Metal everywhere

Cons: Rust

Worst Car Ever — We had a Cherokee Chief. For the first 2 years, it was fine, but then after that, one thing after another went wrong. I also never understood by AMC (who owned Jeep at the time) did not bother to change the GM keys into Jeep keys (the 2.8L V6 was sourced from GM, and was also used in the S-10 Blazer)

Pros: Spacious, 4WD

Cons: Everything

A Well Built, and Designed 4wd Vehicle — I have owned this 1986 Jeep Cherokee since it was delivered from the factory.Doing schedualed fluid changes and maintence is all that has been done to it,and it has never let me down. With the 2.8l V-6,2 bbl carb twisting the Command-trac 4wd after 421,556 miles all over this corner of the globe. She has traveled from Barrow point Alaska,to Key west Florda. The eastern coast of Canada, too many places to mention. Never had a lick of trouble,(except for the A/C going out)Shes been a dream too drive. It has gone threw 3 teenagers, learnning how to drive and countless snow storms.

Owner for 21 years, 0 months

Miles Driven per Year:15,000

Pros: Very steady on her feet

Cons: A/C never worked well enough(west Nebraska heat)after it lost its compresor,we never really missed it

The Parts Jeep — Not quite the Jeep my other 2 are but still ok. I really just bought it as a parts jeep. It has a 4in. lift, front and rear custom bumpers, winch, and 34in tires on beadlock wheels. It has a 2.5L 4 cylinder so it is not so hot in the performance department. but it still is a descent all around 4x4 SUV.

Pros: Had lots of aftermarket parts on it when i got it.

Cons: 4 cylinder
