1980 Honda PreludeReview

What A Wonderfully Fun Little Car! — I was looking for a cheap second car to drive to work, and was all ready to sell out and buy a Festiva when I stumbled on an ad for a 1980 5-speed Prelude. I made a seriously lowball offer, and after a few hours the seller called me back and accepted $1200. It has 220,000 kilometers (145K miles) on it and is in amazing original condition. The body is straight, with good white paint. The interior is exceptional and mechanically (after another $900 to my mechanic) it's excellent. I can't believe how much fun it is to drive! Everything feels tight, the motor runs out strong, and it's as happy as I am taking corners at speed. My last sports car was a 1985 RX7 with an auto transmission, and I prefer the Prelude by a comfortable margin. It's not as pretty as the RX7, but it's much more fun and way cheaper to run. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Peppy, handles nicely, love the sunroof! Cons: Haven't found any. ![]() Looking for a Used Prelude in your area?CarGurus has 28 nationwide Prelude listings and the tools to find you a great deal. |
