Nice!! — Wish it was a manual transmission and had air conditioning. We are going to add vintage air to it in the next couple of months. These cars usually only get driven in the hot summer months. So can't wait for the summer. This is the first summer for this car. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: 455 auto, no rust Cons: nothing yet |

Pontiac Pure Muscle — My first car I bought out of high school in 1986. Absolutely a blast to drive. And talk about fast! Its a beast! Don't mind turning on the radio. You couldn't hear it anyway! My baby has seen her better days. Future plans include a total restoration and time spent doing it with my son. Nothing would make me any happier! Pros: Fast, fast, fast. A real head turner. Cons: Deff sucks GAS! about 4 mpg! |

1970 Gto — Has a built Chevy 454 stroked to 468. Put down a modest 550hp N/A. Typical ETA low 9s. Wish it was still street legal, though. Great track car. It Looks amazing and embodies the entire American muscle time period. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Raw speed Cons: Not street legal |

Sweeettt — Mine is actually a red convertable. Again, i have never driven it. We are currently in need of a new exhaust, which presently has a hole in it and can be heard from a mile away. The trim could use an update and it needs new paint but it still looks friggin awsome. Pros: Speedy, attractive Cons: loud |

A Classic — Have owned this convertible since Oct 2006.... brought it over from Nebraska.. with 71k original miles (I think).. Its 4-speed, A/C, convertible (rare combo), and all original numbers matching. I don't think the engine has ever been apart. Pros: Classic Cons: Nothing |

Classic American Power — Everything....Fast, classic and loud. I love this car because it is a piece of history and everybody wants to look at it. The car is very fast and loud and I just love driving it. The body is in perfect condition and almost everything has been rebuilt. The engine is brand new and has been completely done up. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: fast, looks amazing, piece of American muscle car history, value only rises on this vehicle Cons: can't think of any |

An Awesome Car That I Dont Ever Want To Give Up — Performance: Great get up and go off the line. Has a large engine that can really give a good kick early and will go the long haul. Handles like a dream on most days. Great for riding curves or running fast and straight. Build: For being 40 years old she has held up well. She needs more repairs on the body and the engine. But the engine is not originial anyways. Appearance: The interior is mainly original. The seats have been replaced with cloth covering versus the original leather like material. The exterior needs a paint job but still looks good enough for a few years before absolutely needing it. Cost: Gas is ate up to the point where it is a great cost. Maintenance right now costs a lot, but gas is the biggest. Fun Factor: A classic car is always fun to drive. This is no different. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Fast, cool, good looking Cons: Maintenance and up keep |

stock 455 4 speed, demon carb, stock exhaust manifolds, duals w/ flow masters. the 4 speed makes it so much more car than automatics. vs1970 Dodge Challenger
1970 Pontiac GTO winning categories:
Power
Ranked 1970 Dodge Challenger worse.
"stock to stock the 455 ram air 4 produced a much more brutal launch and had power every gear"
Would Buy
Ranked 1970 Dodge Challenger worse.
"well I had them both and the general motors car was just more solid, in my opinion" |

ponchogto says:
Currently own one, bought it new off the dealer lot, green, 2dr hdtp, 455HO, 4spd, buckets and console, 12 bolt rear and full channel frame like a convertible. Came with 455 decals on hood scoops and trunk but very few options (am radio). Car handles and rides well at speed even with 4 passengers. Car is very quick with the addition of the larger version of the quadra-jet and ram-air exhaust manifolds. Car is a beast but not as relaxing to drive as the 64 Le Mans. 14mpg vs1964 Pontiac Le Mans
1970 Pontiac GTO winning categories:
Power
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans worse.
"Cubic inches, 455 vs 326, big 4bbl carb vs 2bbl, ram air III exhaust manifolds, dual 2 1/2 exhausts, 10.25 compression ratio."
Handling
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans worse.
"Big front and rear stabilizers bars, with nylon front stabilizer bushings on the GTO. The heavy duty GTO shocks were the standard duty Olds 442 shocks (same part number) so it was an easy upgrade to install the heavy duty olds shocks. By 1970 Pontiac was also trying to civilize the GTO. It also had bigger and better tires."
Looks/Style
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"The looks that the Le Mans got with the top down."
Front Seats
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"The whole driving position seemed better. You sat up higher in the 64 and looked out at the road rather than over the dash. Never could seem to find a comfortable position in the 70, the throw to 3rd is too long and moving the seat forward crunches you to much toward the pedals."
Back Seats
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"My parents didnt complain about sitting in the back seat of the Le Mans. Entry and exit was difficult in the GTO. You fell into them and crawled out of them."
Cargo Capacity
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"When I moved into an apartment for college, my dresser and desk easily slid into the trunk of the Le Mans The same furniture was a fight to get into the trunk of the GTO when I moved to a house."
Family Car
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"Ease of exit and entry to the rear seat. My parents (the Buick Electra people) liked the back seat of the Le Mans but hated riding in the GTO. The trunk also seemed to have more useable room and was easier to load and unload."
Value
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans worse.
"THE 70 GTO rides and handles better at speed and gets better gas mileage. Give me my 64 Le Mans back and maybe my memories of 50 years ago can be jogged."
Would Buy
Ranked 1964 Pontiac Le Mans better.
"I would buy the Le Mans with the GTO option." |
