Fast — This car is fun to drive Acceleration, braking and handling are all good . I don't recommend this to the unskilled driver. I only use this at the track or when the roads are completely dry . Get in, Sit down, Buckle up and hang on

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: 10.5 sec 1/4 mile times

    Cons: None

They Don't Make Them Like This Anymore! — I put over 400,000 miles on that Duster. I could not kill that Slant 6 and A904 Tranny. I drove that car with a slipping tranny for over 50K. Drove 200 miles back home with a blown front wheel bearing, Had a rear end problem at 300K and it still drove even though it hopped when you made a turn. This car was a workhorse and I was sorry to see it go. I will get another one some day.I restored it once in 1985 and had to sell it as a project car in 2000 due to a divorce and no place to store the car.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

    Pros: Could not kill it

Cons: Had the usual rust problems in the rear quarters

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

    1970 Plymouth Duster, 318, A-904 Automatic —

Even though this car is almost 40 years old, it's really not too different from modern cars. Old Mopars like these are more like projects and have many different forms they can be built into. Road race machine, street/strip car, cruiser, or a combination of those. The fantastic Chrysler A-body "compact" line (not by today's standards, of course) abounds with engineering excellence not seen in Ford and GM products of the time period. Torsion-bar front suspension, Unibody construction, and powerful yet efficient slant-6 and LA small-block V8's are some of the main points. Amazingly, even though this car is built with sheet steel and good ol' cast iron and is more than 17 feet long, it weighs under 3200 lbs. (common weight for today's compacts) and glides along on the highway like a car twice its weight. This car was fun to drive even when it wasn't fast; with a rebuilt 318 engine with some performance goodies it should blow away most other "cheap" performance cars. The suspension is also very advanced, and even with the stock geometry these cars can pull over 1.0G in the turns with minor modifications (shocks, springs, sway bars, etc.); mind you, this is without any sort of traction control or ABS or anything of the like. Gas mileage depends on how the engine and gearing is set up; with my mild fast-ramp cam and spread-bore carburetor along with tall 2.76:1 final drive I hope to get into the low-mid 20's on the highway. This car is good looking, even if the paint is fading and cracked, and while not as sexy as a 'Cuda or Charger still looks refreshing compared to the ugly plastic eggs of today. I love this car, although I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wasn't a pretty hard-core gearhead as it does require a fair level of upkeep and doesn't have all the mushy (and weight-adding) creature comforts of today's cars.

Pros: Build quality, engineering, performance potential

Cons: Interior space, creature comforts, running costs (not for everyone)

Our Project Car! — We bought this from a friend to restore, still had original motor and all, and was still driveable! Scott even drove it for a year or so before we parked it to work on it.

Pros: Man, this doll would always start!

Cons: It sucks that we had to sell it!
