1967 Mercury Comet Caliente 289 "the Mans Car" — My dad and I bought it for $250 as scrap because he had a field of cars and needed money. He and his dad bought it from a guy in Mexico in 1968 and they drag raced it until his dad died in 1971. He just parked it and it was sitting ever since. Once we got it home we brushed some of the dirt off it and decided it looked like a good father-son project car. After a couple weeks work we finally got it running and it roared like it was back in its glory day on the track. We then gutted the interior and have begun to actually restore the car. I can't wait to get this boss street legal and blazing.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: This car is absolutely gorgeous. The stacked headlights they had from 66-68 were mystical. The muscle cars were an era of vehicles that was so revolutionary.

Cons: Not the best mileage, but it's a '67 muscle car. What do you expect?

Comet Vomit — This was my first car and thankfully I only had it for about 6 months before I got my '69 Cougar. 3 speed, stick on the column, held together with rust, holes in the floorboard, but what the hell, for $100.00 Bucks, what 'd ya expect. As Jimmy Buffett once said "That today, some shoes cost more than my first vehicle", Try and find something with 4 wheels that runs for 100 Bucks today, Forget about it!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: I only had to drive it 6 months, for $100.00

Cons: What do you expect for $100.00

The Perfect Car For A Hot California Summer Day! — Also named the Mercury Caliente. I drove this car for about 2 years, until my dad needed it back. It got horrible gas mileage, but drove like a dream. I learned the hard way not to keep the black convertible top up on a sunny day. It turns the cab into a sauna.

Pros: Hot! Smooth ride.

Cons: Gas guzzler!

1967 Mercury Comet 202 — 400hp V8 with 4 Wheel manual drum brakes, no A/C, manual steering, and a 4-speed on the floor make this car an adventure!

Pros: Quick, uncommon, and sleeper quality

Cons: Poor handling, poor gas mileage, and hard to find body parts.

It'll Never Be Fast Enough.. — The best thing about this car is that there aren't many out there like it; and my dad and I have a lot of hours together working on it. After my dad restored it for Christmas 2009 it's almost just like I like it. Just need new front suspension, big block, stock looking 15" steel rims and some interior finishing up (I want leather and tweed).

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Some day; my dad and I will get the 410, tri-power with aluminum heads in it; then it'll be "funner"...
I would like to find a set of 15" stock style reversed rear/normal front rims so it looks even more stock...
The body lines from the windshield back are my favorite.

Cons: Body parts are hard to find..
The front of these Comets just doesn't look right in my opinion.
Right now the 302 smokes when it's hot and idles for too long.
The front rims are Chrystler; so the dog bowl hub caps don't fit, and my extra pair of chrome fronts are bent so they can't be used when driving..
The bucket seats gotta go! Can't find the original front bench (have the rear though)..

Average Car From The Muscle Car Era By Ivan
