after being properly wintered my mk4 spitfire started first time last week and had a 10 mile run. this weekend i can get the ignition turning over but the engine won't catch - any ideas anyone?
I have tried spraying WD40, tapping it with a hammer, detaching the hand brake cable, releasing brake fluid, and lastly put a torch to it. I am not sure what to do next.

I am looking at two engines, and need to know the date they were built, to get a period correct engine for my car being restored.
Does a 1975 Spitfire with H pattern shift have to be in nuetral to start the car? Or should it start when just having the clutch depressed?
I wonder if the steering feedback becomes better wit needlebearing than the Original pressure rings.
We have done the tappets & new bearings in the dynamo...& removed the water pump which does run smooth ....SO could it be the timming chain hope you can help thanks
