My model is the WRX 265 which accelerates, brakes and corners so ferociously it is nearly a track day car. It is prone to understeer at high speed ...

Subaru Impreza History

The Subaru Impreza was launched in 1993.  Though overseas versions featured performance turbo engines and coupes, the U.S. Impreza came as either a compact sedan or wagon.  Only naturally aspirated engines were initially offered, either a 1.8 or 2.2-liter, as Subaru focused more on quality build and safety than rally racing.
The Impreza was a front-wheel drive vehicle, with the option of all-wheel drive, making it the only compact car in the U.S. to feature all-wheel drive.  Eventually this option became standard when all Subarus came equipped with AWD in 1995.  Realizing there was a potential performance market, Subaru released an Impreza 2.5RS coupe in 1998, with a 165-hp DOHC engine, decked out with a rear spoiler, air vents, and dual hood scoops.  A sedan version of this was later available in 2000.
The coupe disappeared in 2001, as the wagon and sedan remained popular choices, but the Impreza got a suspension makeover that made it sturdier and safer, but too heavy to take advantage of its engine.  The performance Impreza that we know today, the WRX, debuted in the U.S. in 2002, followed by the STi in 2004.  Their 2.5 intercooled turbo engine took the Impreza above 220-hp, and the WRX was named one of the ten best cars by Car and Driver.
The Impreza also has a reputation on the rally circuit, replacing Subaru's previous Legacy rally entry.  In its first race, it came in second, and has gone on to perform impressively around the world.
Currently, the Subaru Impreza is available as a sedan or wagon, with either a 2.5 I4 engine or the turbocharged version in the WRX and STi models.  These performance-oriented cars also feature sports suspension, sports seats, and special alloy performance wheels.  A redesigned grille, headlights, and taillights in 2006 proved unpopular and the 2007 Impreza will feature another exterior redesign.
