Ford Taurus History

The Ford Taurus was launched in 1986 as the flagship  family sedan in Ford's line of cars.  Innovative in its styling, with a sleek, aerodynamic look, the Taurus was also a departure from previous Ford sedans in that it was a front-wheel drive vehicle (the Fairmont and other predecessors had been engineered with rear-wheel drive).

The Taurus was a mid-sized, middle-of-the-road sedan aimed at Middle America.  Nothing exciting, but somehow Ford managed to give it a comfortable, solid look and feel even at a very affordable price point.  Buyers responded to its appeal; the Taurus made the best-seller list in the US market with regularity.
