Re: Shifting incorrectly

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I press the accelerator pedal the car feels sluggish to
respond and only goes to 4000rpm but when I "pedal to the
floor" it, the car doesn't have that pull and it feels like the
gears are slow to respond, yesterday I was driving and testing
the pedal and only tapped on the accelerator a little bit, not all
the way down and the vehicle launched forward and I got so
scared I slammed on my brakes. Went to my mechanic and
he checked the transmission, reset all the sensors and can't
find anything wrong...So am I going crazy or is there
something deeper that's malfunctioning. It's an Automatic
2.2L and has 140,000+ so maybe it's nearing the end of it's
life? Any advice is appreciated.

One thing to have checked would be the catalytic converter. It may be starting to get plugged up. Another thing to try is to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor with the appropriate spray cleaner.
