Starting today my car would drive fine in 1st and 2nd gear then in 3rd gear it would lose power and almost come to a stall but as soon as it got into 4th it was okay

watch fluid for starting to scorch, even smoke at filler tube after a run. you may have 2nd not releasing in time and putting wear on it .itll do it in,,,. quickly.

I also had a check engine light come on for efficiency below threshold bank 1..would a bad o2 sensor make it almost stall like that?
you could try a air sensor as their called on that end of converter, , below threshold is saying its the cat. you know, plug in a scanner, watch no. two sensor in real time . it should read, but slower than no. one. If its jumping with number one, its probably the cat.
