car not cranking

Asked by jtdossey Jun 20, 2018 at 03:39 PM about the 2005 Saturn ION 2

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2005 Saturn ion 2 kills on me when I come to a complete stop.  Sometimes it cranks right back up, but one time it would not crank up and backfired loudly and sputtered a lot.  Brought it to a mechanic who replaced the crankshaft sensor.  The same thing happened again and of course, I have been able to make it repeat the problem.  I am scared it will happen again and leave me stranded like last time.  Any suggestions.

I would definitely check your chain. sounds like a chain guide broke.

Thanks, I will definitely check the chain. Is that a difficult operation? I am also assuming that the problem will get progressively worse after doing it intermittingly?

If your doing the work yourself, yes the car will be down for a few days, and yes the problem will get worse and engine damage will occur.
