1996 Firebird 3.8 wont start

I have a 1996 firebird 3.8 and just
replaced the battery and starter. The
only sound I'm getting is you hear the
starter engage (a thump sound)and the
engine won't turn over.

Sounds like a VATS prob I had abt 6 most ago. Are you gettg a security light when the key is turned on?
