99 Pontiac stereo problems

Asked by Rfrank123 Mar 25, 2013 at 09:22 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Sunfire 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 sunfire, the stereo is not
working correctly. It is the original
stereo with a CD player. All of the
lights on it come on except the time
screen. When I hit the recall button, it
will come on for about 5 seconds
then go back off. I can't listen to the
radio or a cd. Please help!

As I recall these have a 'security code' that needs to be input before it can start honkin with the tunes...check the owner's manual, if it's still at hand and in the glovebox, where it belongs, you could see what the 'security code' business is all about.

you could do exactly as I do when solving problems is look on google to see who else has had this problem, that's how I found out about this oddball security non-sense!

It looks like it's time to replace the radio. If it was a security issue, it would say LOCKED across the front.

well whatever it is doin, is probably supposed to, check the owner's manual will be the definative source for the correct answer.
