I have a 2000 Pontiac sun-fire ignition turns over but not starting and lights come on dash board what could be the problem please help

was starting fine then all of a sudden went to turn it over nothing happen just lights in
dash board came on and hear a clicking sound, then nothing

Might be the neutral safety switch, turn the key to the on position and put the car in neutral, try to start. if it starts then safety switch is bad.

if it were the ignition switch it probably wouldn't crank, check if fuel pump is working, have someone listen at the fuel cap,turn key to on position but do not crank, the pump should make a humming sound for a second then shut off

I took it had it put on computer their trying to say its the starter and the steering column telling me I had to replace all before it will start not sounding right, saying replacing the key switch wouldn't work

But I'm requesting a print out for where they put it on computer,going to have a friend check it out because he said it didn't sound right also
