2001 Pontiac Bonneville battery died and will not recharge it says if there is a parasite somewhere pulling energy away from the battery or not giving the energy from the alternator into the battery

Asked by Frank Sep 15, 2017 at 02:51 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 Pontiac Bonneville I left my lights on for
two nights without realizing it my interior lights
and it drained my battery to the point where I could
barely start my vehicle and then the next day I
couldn't start my vehicle. I hooked it to a trickle
charge battery charger and it works just started up
the next day but it has been getting progressively
worse and as I drive the voltage went from like 14
down to 13 8 could this be my alternator is not
giving the energy into the battery or do you have
any other ideas?

How old is the battery? I would recommend taking it to a parts store or battery warehouse and have it tested. If the alternator is charging to 13.8v then it is working correctly.

Agree. Just sounds like a weak battery and leaving the lights on pushed it over the edge. Having it tested is the right move and should point you to the problem. If you can start the car, take the car to the parts store and have them test the whole system.

It is easy diagnosis. Invest in the OBII hand held computer and plug it in to the trapezoid plug. It will give you a code and look it up. Then, replace. That easy.
