seems like I have been putting alot more gas in my 2002 sunfire lately can anyone tell me why

How long since your last major tune up? Also check oil. Does it smell like gas if so you might have an injector leaking gas by while the car is parked and not running. Look under car for fuel leaks.

Winter mileage is always bad. Longer warm ups and richer fuel ratios in cold weather can drop your mileage by 20%. If your engine is not in good tune, it can be even worse.
