If I fail a smog test, will the mechanic tell me what it is that needs replacing/fixing?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently purchased a used 05 pontiac sunfire. the check engine light came on
and gave me the p0455 code for a large evap leak. If i get a smog test done at
a shop, will they let me know where the leak is?

If he knows why and you ask him he should tell you. You cannot always tell exactly why a car fails smog but sometimes you can. Sometimes you have to disassemble things and perform additional tests to know. In your case you will need a smoke test to find the problem which would be extra.
