Why might my '89 Ford Van still be running hot after replacing the water pump and thermostat?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Water pump was bad, fixed it, put in a new
thermostat, refilled the coolant, and it now
runs with the needle just above the middle
to 3/4 on the temperature gauge and
keeps rising after I shut her down.. any
ideas on what else I could try fixing?
Radiator cap seems new, radiator and fan
look alright.

Also, checked the composition of the coolant mixture, and it was spot on... ran it for 15 minutes without the radiator cap on right after the repair to work out any air..

What type of thermostat you put in. Some vehicles have different temperature ranges and you might have one for opening at higher temps, good for cold weather, but lousy for hot environments
