2001 Ford E150 starts but only for about a minute

Asked by Glenn Jan 18, 2016 at 01:51 PM about the 2000 Ford E-Series E-150 STD Econoline

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought this van and drove it home, about a 2 hr ride.  2 miles before I get home, going up a
steep incline, the engine shuts off.  I have it towed home, battery was dead from cranking and
lights on.  When battery dead made a clicking noise when trying to start it.  Checked dipstick and
there was a little on the end, wiped off and tried again the was nothing.  Added 2 quarts oil and
was enough, started it, it turned over and then shut off again, and then can't restart right away at
all.  Tried this twice, so it either starts for about a minute or won't at all.  Anyone have this
problem or know what I can do?
