2020 Forester Touring rear door operating conditions

Asked by theogluck Dec 19, 2020 at 04:04 PM about the 2020 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring AWD with EyeSight Package

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So far loving my 2020 Forester Touring edition.  One odd thing:  If my car is
in park but still running (not turned off), the rear door will not open when
using the interior button on the lower left panel. The ONLY time it will
operate using the interior button seems to be when I turn off the car AND
open the driver's door (so even the audio system turns off) THEN can I open
the door using the interior button.  This seems very counterintuitive when we
are now in a time when curbside delivery and popping the trunk is the norm.
Is there a basic setting I am missing here?

I suspect this is a safety feature to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the car. Ask you Subaru dealer for more information.
