How do i get rid of the single Speed Sensor code P0500 on my 1999 Nissan Maxima???

Asked by Leo Jun 30, 2016 at 09:31 PM about the 1999 Nissan Maxima GXE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I fixed many diff codes in recent months like EGR
valve replacement, MAP Sensor, amd after a
certified mechanic comfirmed tht my ECU was
faulty and reason for throwing two other codes
that he confirmed were not the issue ( speed
sensor passed pin test n is good same with 02
sensors)  i went and matched a good exact match
ecm/ ecu at. Junkyard  and then had it installed
and reprogrammed by a buddy at a Nissan
dealership. The CEL went off and i was driving it
through cycles but just today the CEL came back
on and still showing P0500 Speed sensor code.
Any idea what i could do or tell mechanic to rid tht
code and CEL and be emissions ready soon??  Is it
possible that the CEL will turn off by itself after
driving it some more?? FSM says drive cycle ia
about 60 miles , but so far still not off. Please help

P0500 NISSAN - Vehicle Speed Sensor- Possible causes - Faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor - Vehicle speed sensor harness or connectors is open or shorted - Vehicle speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM).... On most Nissan models the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is installed in the transaxle, on some Nissan models poor connection at the speedometer can cause the problem. Before replacing the sensor you should try cleaning the sensor gear and erasing the code. If the light comes back you may have to replaced the sensor.
