premature tire wear on toyota sienna

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE FWD has 50,000 miles and the orig set of tires
(Mich Primacy MXV4) lasted 22k miles before I put a set of Yokohama
YK240 GTX on the van. I went with Yok as i was disappointed that Mich pro-
rated the tires poorly in my opinion. Generally, I believe Mich is best tire to
have, but i was pissed!  Then upon rotation at approx. 47,000 miles, i had to
replace two of these. I've read this model is hard on the front tires?

Did you get an alignment when you bought the tires? You should always get an alignment when you buy new tires and have it checked once a year. Hope that helps! Jim

I did not, but the wear was generally across the tire - especially on the front. However, the oldest two tires which are on the front currently after the last rotation are showing more wear on the outside of the tread pattern. I will definitely be getting an alignment at a trusted local shop. I'm going to be shopping new tires at Discount (i have had good experience) and with my local shop. My wife drives it primarily and only around town with some highway speed use too shuttling kids around. Are you aware of any brands, etc. I should buy to get better life out of the tires? The first set made it 22k and out of this last set, 2 have made it another 27k but the other two only about 20k before i swapped them out!

You're welcome. Glad to help! Yes, it sounds like an alignment should do the trick. After 5 years the rubber on the tire begins to break down and the possibility of dry rot increases dramatically. When shopping for tires I figure I'll be driving about 50,000 over the next 5 years. So that's what I go for. Believe it or not, and some people will scoff, but I have very good luck with Pep Boys tires! I've been buying them for my vehicles for the last 30 years and never had a problem. I've never had a set not last for 5 years. Never had any issues with dry rotting, shifted belts, or anything. I've put them on everything from my 66 Cadillac that I had back in the 80s to my 08 Grand Marquis which I drive daily today. I would definitely recommend you have a look at them. Hope that helps! Jim
