car does not accelerate when pressing the gas pedal after a stop

Asked by surinder Aug 08, 2019 at 01:57 PM about the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 300 Coupe 4MATIC AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Mercedes C300 Coupe 2019 model bought 7 months back. It will
not accelerate when pressing the gas pedal after a stop and instead gets
into idle mode. It will be moving very slowly (as if gas pedal is in idle state)
and how hard I press the gas pedal, the RPM does not go increase (stays at
around 0.5). I have tried changing gears manually to M1-M3 or pressing the
peddle softly or hard but still nothing works. But if I put my car in parking and
drive it again, everything goes to normal as if nothing happened. It happened
to me 3 times. I took it for service and they could not replicate the same
issue.

Its kind of scary now. Can anyone help me with what could have been
happening

Hey, No, they did not resolve the issue. I gave my car for fixing this issue for 4 times and they could not even find it. I even raised a replacement case with them and what they replied with is hilarious. In short, they could not find what causes this issue, so they are not even acknowledging it. I am kind of pissed off at them. Did you guys isolate when and how it happens?

I had mine in to be fixed this week and they said the ESP lost its coding. They have reset the coding and tried to get it to replicate the issue. I remember over the month before this happened there were a couple times where I felt my car was sluggish for a second and then talked myself into thinking I was imagining things so if that happens again I will bring it back in.

I have a 2017 GLC 300 Coupe and the exact same behavior happened to me except I was traveling on a highway going 75 miles per hour when my car started loosing speed and could not control the gas pedal anymore. It was stuck, needless to say how scary and dangerous was to manage to stop the car on the shoulder. When I turned off the car and back on everything worked fine. My car is still at the MB dealership.. I called MB USA to report it as this could have been fatal. Their response was they said they never heard of this issue before.. I mentioned several posts online about a similar issue and there response was we can not verify reliability of the information online...!!! Needless to say my lease ends in few months and will definitely not get a Mercedes for sure ...

I have a 2020 GLE350. Same thing happens to my car. Stopped at the light to make a left. When I tried to do do I hit the gas to turn. Nothing was happening and the car was going at speed as if I was not hitting the gas. I almost got hit by a car coming towards me. I turned back right to avoid the car and turned on my emergency light. I pushed the park button, then back on drive and then it worked after doing it 2 times. Any idea what it can be? I mean I got this car brand new with 5 moms on it 2 months ago. I have a new born and I’m so scared having her in the car now. After reading everyone’s post, I don’t think MB service can see what happened or fix the problem. I will take the car for service Monday. Any help I’d be very thankful.

It happened with my 1999 ML 320, years ago. No one could find it, nor Mercedes Dealer. Finally an outside Technician replaced The computer with a used reprogramed one. It never happened again. Now I,m having the same problem with my brothers 2011- 300. I've asked, no one knows. I'm afraid its the computer as it happened on my 1999. If someone have a solition,PLEASE TELL..

The problem never shows in the cluster warnings; not even a check eng. light. Unfortunately my technician moved and I loose his contact. The problem happens after you suddenly accelerate; when you try to accelerate it goes to Idle; you try to accelerate and nothing happens, it stays in idle. You stop, go to Park, and turn Switch off. Turn switch On and it starts with normal acceleration and function.

My car just did the same thing. Was ready to turn onto a street and the car would not move. I called Mercedes and I have to wait 2 weeks to bring the car in. It is very scary since not sure if this will happen again. As someone said, it could be fatal... This is crazy! I only have 3K miles on my 2019 C300.

They reprogrammed mine almost a year ago December and it has been fine since the ESP lost its coding is what they said. It is so scary

I had the exact same issue tonight 12/11/2020 happen to my Mercedes Benz. I was scared because I was in an intersection, albeit a small one. I could not accelerate and I was literally almost frozen with fear. My car said it was in drive yet it would not accelerate over 720 rpms or whatever that measurement on the dash is. I am calling Mercedes in the morning. They will fix this or I will NEVER get another Mercedes, I rather go back to Lexus!

'20 C300 - not on the road for even a year yet. Has anyone had any issues getting this replaced under warranty even if you can't demonstrate the issue on demand?

90

@Guru9W63QL No they did not. If we know how we can replicate this issue we can ask them to fix it. I even tried replacing the car under lemon law but they said as we can not replicate it we can not do anything. I think we all should file a case against Mercedes for not helping us with the issue. If everyone feels the same let me know

I have a 2019 E300 and it does the same thing, it nearly got me killed. Traffic slowed in front of me so i slowed down and simultaneously looked and checked the right lane which was clear so i changed lanes and hit the throttle and nothing, absolutely nothing, it sputtered and struggled to find a gear and than finally it did. By that time traffic was on me, it could have been tragic, what a POS this car is. Its at the dealer now

I have a 2020 C300 Coupe and this just happened to me and to say the least it was terrifying because I was in traffic. A car stopped to let me turn left a and when I hit the accelerator the car would not move. Luckily, I was able to coast to the curb but if the car was coming faster it would have hit me. It was like the car was in neutral. I put it park and turned it off and then turned it back on and it accelerated okay. This is the second time this happened and it is not safe. I’m taking it in to the dealer but as other people say they won’t find anything but I have noted what I see here. I also, made a report with Mercedes Customer Care. I have had more problems with this new car in 6 months than I’ve had with my 10 year old Lexus. When the had 200 miles the check engine light came on and the cluster had to be replaced. When I asked customer care if this is common of course they said, they don’t have any reports of problems of this type but obviously from the comments here it does happen a lot. You shouldn’t pay all this money for a luxury car and have mechanical issues. I purchased this car for reliability and safety and have not received either.

Have the gas pedal assembly replaced. Most of Mercedes input-output components are capable of doing a self check, but the gas pedal seems to have none. Thus when it fails, there is no fault generated, with the engine control oblivious of the gas pedal's position. Mercedes technicians are so dependent on their diagnostic software (XENTRY), they are no longer required to think on their own. The pedal is < $200, and will take <15 mins to replace.

Had this problem with my 2020 GLC 300 SUV. The problem is with the accelerator pedal. It will not show any codes for faults for the control modules, no visual inspection problems. Have your MB dealer check the following document - LI07.70-P-072976 - Accelerator Pedal. It is a known problem and requires a software update - Software is 18B.

Thank you for the information! My C300 did this yesterday / last evening at dark, and I was almost hit. Thank goodness I found a parking lot to pull into. I contacted MB last night and was told to have it towed! I am calling the Avondale MB dealership again tomorrow morning and providing the information you have provided. Thank you!

Guru9HN65F, did you find out what the problem was? My 2020 C300 did this to me yesterday, it was terrifying - luckily I was still close to home. The check engine light also came on and my gas efficiency button no longer was on either. I literally had my gas pedal to the floor and I could barely get to 30mph. I called Mercedes and they had it towed to the dealer. Interested to see what they said was wrong with your car and did they fix it under warranty. Thank you!

I have had the same issue for over two years and so far, I have taken the car to the dealership for over four times & for over 20 days in total. Their response is the same. We couldn't duplicate but this new software update would take care of it. WRONG! I am going to give another week or two to test out before calling a lemon law lawyer. For those who spoke to MB and was told that they had never heard of such issue, contact me for my invoice copies. Once we can pool our invoice, they will have to either buyback or face a class action lawsuit. I have seen more than 100s MB owners with the same issue.

Same issue just happened to me a few days ago. 2019 C300. At an intersection to turn left, went to accelerate, only idle speed and almost got hit from behind. Car is at the MB dealership now. I'll follow up on the results.

I have a 2015 E250 4matic. Driving car on main road going 50 mph and car displayed inoperative and started going only 2 mph. Vehicle got towed to dealer. They diagnosed it as a gas petal default. Cost me $700 for the repair. 2 weeks later driving on the interstate and it happened again. This time I almost got hit by a tractor trailer and could of been fatal. I pulled over to shoulder police came. Had vehicle off for 20 minutes. When it started, check engine light appeared and I was escorted off interstate by police and went to same dealer. This is now the second week and dealer is still diagnosing the problem. This is definitely a manufacturer defect. This needs to be addressed with a remedy before somebody get killed or seriously injured.
