Was driving down the motorway and lost drive and reverse.

I was doing around 100km on the motorway and the car lost drive Auto mode /
Tiptronic . Tried to get back into gear. Nothing came to a stop. No D or R
Suggestion of what it could be,

Without being there, I would guess something internal to the transmission failed. Due to heat, low fluid and or just old and worn out.
