Brake won't push down, what could be the problem? Own a 1989 pickup truck b2600 4wd and the brake pedal just won't push through. It still holds but have to press on it very hard. Batch

Your brake booster could be defective, you could have air in your brake system. You could be low on brake fluid, you could need brake shoes.

I'm thinking the break booster system, (good manifold vacuum, hose, booster), like joemom suggests, and or possible rear shoes adjusted too tight to the drum.

Ok. Here we go. When you installed your brake M.C. Did you correctly line up the brake pushrod? That's the rod that comes off the brake peddle arm inside the cab. If its bent or misaligned you might be having that problem. Take off all four wheels and have a friend sit inside and push on the brake peddle very gently to see if the wheel cylinders are operating smoothly. For the rear brakes, take the drums off. And also. As on person suggested. Did you rest your rear brake adjustment? If the rears don't spin at all with them off the ground then that would be a problem. Oh. And is your parking brake on? Some people forget to release it. When you do all that, get back on here and we'll see. Good luck!

I have a Mazda 1991 B2200 (with carburetor). I have had the brakes not engage at all (brake pedal travel is minimal or nonexistent) especially during cold weather. I had to pump the brakes repeatedly until the pedal "released" and the brakes engaged. We found that a "check" valve inside of a hose to the brake booster was not operating properly. Replacing the valve (hose with valve) did fix the problem, at least, temporarily.
