I want to replace my engine a 3.8 v6 in a 95 Mercury Cougar XR7 with any other than one from Ford

The 3.8 is a very good engine. The big problem with them was the poorly designed head gaskets. Once the head gaskets are replaced with properly designed gaskets the 3.8 will last a good long time.
