Heat is not getting hot in my 97 mercury cougar 4.6 v8

My a.c. works well but my heat doesn't work in my
97 mercury cougar xr7 v8. Why?

could be either heater core or heater coil,go look on youtube

I just bought this car the gange inside for hot goes up and down .seems like it goes up.

Check wires, fuses, hoses, and vacuum lines, could be your blend door not working due to a wiring issue as simple as a bad ground wire or bad fuse! Be careful w dry rotted vacuum lines be very very very very very gentle!!!!
