Serpintine belt repalcing on a 1999 Mercury Sable w/3.0 Duratec engine.

Asked by Wally Feb 02, 2015 at 12:47 AM about the 1999 Mercury Sable GS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Not enough room to get reakerbar w/socket on tensioner pulley. Is the tensiner pulley supposed to be rotated or is this one that has a belt that streches and you need two people to replace the belt? Frustrated....

You said "breaker bar with socket". In most cars there is not enough room between the tensioner and the fender to get something that large into that space, so go to Harbor Freight or autozone or similar and spend the $20 to make your life much easier. It's well worth it and it can be used over and over again on other cars and trucks as well. Just make sure you get the 2 piece tool, that has the additional part that allows you more angles then the standard one piece tool.
